Hush, if you're gonna come in here and think this is pointless.
This is merely for the drummer looking to improve overall speed and whatnot, or the up and coming metal drummer looking to kick his blasts and double bass into high gear.

I'd like to add to this that all metal drummer should be practicing alot of single stroke for long periods of time. set a metronome and just play steady single for 5 minutes at a time. you dont have to do it too fast, just as fast as is comfortable, then do the same with your feet. this excersize is as much about keeping control over long periods of time then it is about endurence

I highly recommend acquiring a practice kit too
I made this for less then $75, and all the pads are triggered so I can use them with my DM5 and Drumometer:

if you drum set is not at your house, or you have noise problems you shouldm definatley have a practice kit or at least a pad. I have a set at home and a set at the studio

I got one recommendation: stick control by george lawrence stone. practice with your feet. or practice the rhythms with your hands over a steady 16th feel with your feet. or break up between hands and feet as you see fit. priceless.

I havent taken a video in a while. I just ordered a firewire cable for my camera so i should be able to record something and put it on my pc soon. Dont expect me to be the sickest metal drummer ever or anything

I never trust stuff like that, it always sounded really shady to me. Like the name itself, "Hansen Futz", hands and foots practice pad? But guess if you can vouch for it... because I definitely need something to work my feet as I can't play my set at my house because its too loud.

Great Post. Roddy is amazing.
That workout is in the Joe Morello Master studies Book. He calls 'The Stone Killer' as taught to him by George Lawrence Stone. The excersise gets deeper as you add Accents and double up. Plus you go into triple feel aswell. Check it out. The Book is really good in general and makes a great addition to classic Stick Control book by G L Stone which you MUST get if you want to step up your playing.

Hello all, I'm new to this site. I love that Roddy video. I used to do practice the half hour routine and it worked. I got to get back into that. I heard that Pete Sandoval from Morbid angel was coming out with a drum video. Unfortunately I heard this news like 3 or 4 years ago and I don't think its going to happen.

I love George Kollias, but my favorite drummer that played with Nile is Tony Laurano. That guy is a beast!!!!

A metal drummer that has had me in awe since the release of Between the Buried and Me's new album "Colors" has been Blake Richardson. I think I've listened to that album at least once a day since November. It's such an amazing album and I love the creativity and flexibility that not only Richardson exhibits but the entire band. I recommend it if you haven't already checked it out.

While I'm "old school" drummer and can't get into all that speed stuff, that first clip is VERY Impressive-though if I tried that, at my age I'm sure I'd have a heart attack!lol HOw the F*%k does someone get here limbs to move that fast!

Straight 8s in 6/8, but use this sticking: R L R L R L / R L L R R L / L R L R L R / L R R L L R (repeat)
speeds around 120-140 (for a dotted quarter) will force you to control the doubles, as opposed to just throwing them into the drum and hoping that they bounce in time.

Another excellent (but not metal in any way) drummer is Jojo Mayer. I strongly recommend his new DVD "Secret Weapons for the Modern Drummer." He's funny, well spoken, and knows what he's talking about.

I just posted this in the forum member videos, but I'll delete that one and reprint here since it seems here is more appropriate.
It seems like my stuff always comes out in pairs with a personal project on one end and a WFD thing on the other. Today I was playing vibes with a piano player I really liked and we decided to record some things tomorrow and maybe post immediately. In the meantime this just came out.
It's a PBS show called Alt. News 26:46 with me, Johnny Rabb and WFD founder Boo McAfee. It's run by college age people and its won several Emmys. I was at Boo's farm outside of Nashville, a couple of months ago as part of a launch for the new WFD video game. They filmed Johnny's segment at a Nashville gig the night before. I was impressed at how nice the segment turned out, and I even got to rant a little.

Ask your girl friend if fast is good. I'll admit I can not play double BD at those speeds for very long. So what. Who buys it.

Must have missed the first post in this thread, huh? Speed and chops can't be a bad thing to have in one's arsenal and that's what this is about, not polyrhythms, paradiddles and odd time meters. I guess I'll wait for your instructional videos and see what it's all about.
