 Cymbal Brand Loyaty
Does anyone here mix different brands of cymbals or do you mainly stick with a single manufacturer?

I have a mix of Meinl, Sabian, and Zildjian cymbals. I am looking to go to one brand though, just because I like consistency.

I stick with Paiste only because for whatever reasons, they are my favorite. I have about 15 of them and they all sound great.
That being said, I have owned Sabians and Zildjian's before that I thought were great sounding cymbals as well. Can't comment on other manufacturers b/c I have not had the chance to really play other brands. I find some people do get too defensive about cymbals when people say they don't like their brand though. To each their own.

I've played all kinds of brands but I tend to be a loyal person in general. I mixed cymbals for awhile but have found that Zildjian fits my style and taste the best. Peace on ya!

A while back, when I bought my kit used, it came with two paiste signature crashes, but zildjian hats, a zildjian ride, and one zildjian crash.
The zildjians were all really dark and the paistes were all really bright. I like both sounds, but I wanted some sort of sound consistency. And buying all paistes, even used, was something I just could not come up with the money for. That and my attraction to a dark cymbal sound prompted me to sell the paistes and complete a zildjian setup.
I'm all As and Ks now.

i do not have brand loyalty, i have good sound loyalty haha
i really really enjoy istanbul agops as well as zildjian Ks, so I have a mix of both brands.... and I also have an oddball 18" meinl Laser crash that had taken so much abuse from it's previous owner that the bell has almost become flat...it sound like a flat ride so i use it as one...
i think you should be loyal to what you like....it is stupid to buy something just beacause it has a certain name on it

Bingo. I really do not think it matters, unless you have an endorsement deal. That's when things may change a bit.

no brand loyalty here. i could post specs, but just take my word for it. i buy what sounds good and i dont think i could be completely happy sticking with one brand...although i think i may be able to do it with sabian.

I think if one brand has your "voice", that's what you play. If multiple brands have your "voice", that's what you play. I played Zildjians for 32 years, because they were my voice. I tried cymbals from Sabian (I am still quite fond of their 10" AA China Splash) and Paiste, but kept coming back to Zildjian, mostly A series. Then I found Saluda and was able to further focus my voice with the custom options from them. So now I'm a Saluda guy.

im a zildjian man and for the most part have been for a really long time. i will not waste my money on anything but zildjian. call me a fanboy, call me a labelwhore...i dont really give a shit. just because i like zildjians, and no other company does not mean a damn thing. they sound the best to me, ive had and played MANY other brands and didnt like them at all. so i stick with zildjian.
i remember a couple months ago one of my very first posts was about how i only play zildjian, and i had about 5 people jumping all over me, calling me a bastard, saying i was closed minded, calling me an idiot. it was pretty dumb.

my ocd doesn't allow me to mix and match brands.
i can't have a couple zildjians and a sabian...
it's all got to be one or the other.

At the moment I primarily use all Zildjian and a couple Wuhan chinas because they are cheap.
I can't agree more with king_friday's post. I get annoyed when people say that I'm closed minded about cymbal brands. Then a whole argument starts up about "No dude! Zildjian sucks! Saluda/Sabian/Paiste owns all!"
I like Zildjian atm. That's what I use except a couple budget wuhan chinas. I wish people would stop caring that some of us ONLY like certain brands of cymbals.
Sorry for totally changing the subject of this post.

I'll use anything that sounds good. UFIP makes some of my favorite cymbals, but I have Zildjian 15" A hi hats from the late 60's, an 18" Sabian Vault crash with rivets, and a UFIP 20" medium ride at the moment. Not really on the super dark/low side, but not killing my ears with treble either. kind of in the middle, and they sound good together. I've used paiste cymbals as well. Probably overall have used more Zildjians than anything else.
I will say this: I don't like it when "good" cymbal companies make chinas. Wuhans sound the best precisely because they're made out of low-quality alloy. They break easier than any other cymbal ever made, tho. Luckily they're cheap as hell.

wuhans are b20 just like your sabian vault and zildjian hats. its not the alloy thats weak, its the individual crafting of the cymbals.

I now try and play all Zildjian, I just get on with them the best. I've tried some others, like Meinl but they didn't last very well for me, they kept breaking!!!
Sabians I have never got along with, and i've never took much notice of paiste for some reason! But no I love my Zildjians and they look great all the together, but deffinately mix up the series between the A's and K's, because you get some great contrasting soungs!

I have all Sabian cymbals apart from 1 Zildijian 18" ZXT Rock Crash and it sounds completely out of place from the Sabian cymbals because it has a completely different ring to it. It annoys me.

Doesn't make sense to me to stick with just one comany with so many choices available. I have/have had Zildjian, Sabian, Paiste, Ufip, Meinl, Istanbul, Dream, Rancan and Wuhan.
