I'd need to know who rated him, and what the rating was!

Most people that I know rate him pretty poorly, so, how could he be over rated?

He's over rated by people that like him, and properly rated by most others...

Randy Jackson says" He's just all right for me... what do you think paula?"

Personally, I don't think he is overrated or underrated. He is a good drummer for the genre he is in and has been know to branch out from there. The guy from 3 in of Blood was learning from him and he's had to fill in for Korn and Metallica. Guys that suck can't do stuff like that. Now does the younger fan base think to much of him, yes, my son is one of them.

Here it is. take or leave it.

I think joey deserves the unique title of being both one of the most underrated and overrated metal drummers around. Hes a good drummer. Hes got some nice chops, his playing is damn clean, his parts always fit the music. and hes pretty damn fast. Yet how many kids swear that he sucks, he cant play anything and anyone that likes slipknot even a little bit (i love the first 2 albums) needs to stop likeing them and listen to george kollias all day. On the other hand we have the obvious. which is the kids who litterally think hes the best drumer in the world (im not joking) or the fastest in the world, "better than mike portnoy". you know. that kinda stuff.

I think Joey is a good drummer. He has played with Slipnkot and filled in for Metallica, Korn and Ministry. Knowing how Al Jorgenson of Ministry is, that tells me how good a drummer he really is. Is he the best drummer ever? No, but he is good because if you think about it, those bands don't really aound anything alike.

I have to agree with this also. When he filled in for Metallica he didn't have much time to prepare so that shows confidence. He's a showman too which goes with Slipknot's style. I didn't used to like Slipknot because, being the old fogey I am, I'm not really interested in all that theatrical nonsense. However, seeing past that, they're actually a really talented band. I think Mr Jordison's best is yet to come though.

Just my 2 cents.

T.

He's definately a good drummer, it just gets me annoyed when people claim he's the best drummer in the world. Which he's just not. Definately worth his fame though. Fast, always fits the music (not a wanker), pretty clean.

your the worst thing to happen to your parents.

But in all seriousness I agree with most people on this, he is a pretty damn solid drummer, decently versatile and hes got nice chops too. Definitely underrated and overrated in too many situations.

Honestly, he's neither. No drummer is either over rated or under rated. There is no concrete rating system in which to base any sort of rating upon for ANY drummer. We haven't heard him play jazz, funk, pop punk, punk, oldies, classical...we've heard him play metal and that's it. It's plain and simple. He plays metal very damn well and clean. He does what is asked of in the music and what is required.

How many other drummers in the world do people say are the best in the world?

THOUSANDS.

So just because some 13 year old says he's the best in the world, doesn't mean anything. I happen to think Danny Carey is the best in the world...IN MY OPINION. But he's not. No one is.

By genre of music, Joey does a FANTASTIC job. But in general, he's fast, clean, and proper to the music being played. He's not under rated or over rated. He wasn't a first round draft pick of drummers.

There is NOT ONE DRUMMER out there that is the best in the world. When someone says it, ignore it or realize, to THEM that individual is. Big deal. I used to think Chad Sexton was the best ever...you know how many people don't? THOUSANDS, if not more. But he does what is required for the music.

ADD EDIT: And to be honest, I really don't like the over/under rated business. There is no basis for it, no "square one" if you will. Are they good or not at what they do? Yes, Joey is good at what he does.

Dude, Steve Gadd IS the best, and, uhh, no argument. Mr. Green Mr. Green

Personally, I like Joey. I think his playing is extremely tight and clean, and I have yet to hear a run that wavers in tempo and feel. He's an accomplished drummer. I mean, I used to be into him like non other, and I've tried to play some of those Slipknot songs. It's no walk in the park. So, he's got something going for him.

Is he underrated/overrated? Who knows. In the wide world of drumming, EVERY drummer is underrated and overrated in their own way. To a metal drummer, Jimmy Cobb is a vastly overrated drummer, whereas to a Jazz drummer, Dave Lombardo is a vastly overrated drummer. I think Chick Webb is a hugely underrated drummer, but if you aren't a Jazz drummer, you'd think, "Who?" I personally think John Dolyamen is underrated, but those outside of the alternative/Metal scene wouldn't know who that was (For those wondering, Chick Webb was a Jazz drummer in the early 1900s who had horrible back problems that made him almost hunchback, but still could whoop the pants off any Big Band chart put in front of him. John is the drummer from System Of A Down).

actually, buddy had terrible back problems. I often wonder if it was due to his posture on the kit, or if maybe his posture was a result of his back problems. how that man could perform while in excruciating pain...I'm kind of a "show must go on" type myself, and always took inspiration from his resilience. I played a show once with a 102.5 degree fever. I collapsed and had to be taken to the emergency room, where they found my fever had risen to a hair over 103 degrees. true story. I'm probably lucky to not have suffered brain damage...well, any more than I already have. Twisted Evil

When you see/hear him play with KoRn he sounds so... out of place and their timing seems faster too.
He is overrated but he does deserve some of the credit he gets.
he didnt ask for it the "maggots" gave it to him

I'm A big fan. I can see how you all are saying he's over rated... Now i'm not trying to change your mind but the people who like him don't just like him for slipknot. he has a few other band s that he plays guitar for. If you really want to judge him do it from musical talent then look at the CD that road runner records put out for their 25th year celebration. He wrote alot of music parts including other instruments. The inside booklet tells you who did what and the DVD lets you see into the 4 team captins lives... Joey (Nathen) Jordison is a great musician, and he has a gift.

I Really recomend this album to any metal fan new and old....

I remember when I first started playing drums and I dug out one of my ol Metallica albums, and I thought Lars' drumming was amazing! ...Then I put on Slipknot's selftitled after not listening to it for years, and I was like "fuuuucccckkkk!!!!" .
I was a massive Slipknot fan when they just came out when I didnt play drums, not really taking much notice of their playing. Then once you take up drumming thats the first thing your ears lock onto when you hear a song!
