Whats best? Are they really worth it? Don't you need some sort of extra mixer or something, please help me out because I like the way most external triggers sound I just don't know much about them.

You need a module, the module then goes to the PA.

Thanks, but is it worth it? The money, the time to set up and sound check. Furthermore, what should I look for?

You'll spend at least $250, depending on options. Yamaha makes a cheap module that's decent, but the Alesis has more features. Don't get stick on triggers, look to the Rolands or the Ddrum pros.
