are z customs good to cut through loud rock music?

hmmmm depends wht sort of rock your playing???

id say yes because they have a really crisp sound the hi hats are nice and soo is the crash as for the ride i would suggest something heavier

I play Z customs and yes they cut through loud music. The power ride I had to set to the side though. Way too loud. I mix Z's and A's and it makes for a good combo. Peace on ya!

i bought an entire set of Z's a long time ago... 17 & 18 rock crashes, 14 dino-beat hats and a mega bell ride.

i didn't care for any of them.

especially the dino-beats. they were really 'chikky' and didn't sound very good when played open and the mega bell ride sounded like you were playing a thick chunk of scrap metal if it was played anywhere besides the bell.

i don't remember a lot about the crashes aside from being glad to get rid of them.

i did once have a mega bell ride, when i played rock. they sort of suck, but Zs do cut through loud music very well.

From what I've heard, the Z Customs are bright and cutting enough to penetrate loud rock. Not my sound, but yeah, they'll cut through.

Yeah they penetrate loud music but that's all they do. There's no mid-volume or dynamics to them at all. Plus they don't last, because the only way to get them to open up is to give them a good thrashing - no Z I've ever owned has lasted more than about 9 months, and this isn't down to playing them wrong or anything like that.

Well, I can say at least with A Customs no matter how I hit them I get a wonderful crash sound. I just love the warm undertones they give.

Honestly the Z Customs might have a lot of high end crash to them, but to my ear it sounds like sh*t without the undertones. It's like a ZBT or Camber cymbal that just happens to be cast instead of sheet.

Haha de-fensive or what? Watch those opinion RANKband.com, you're entitled to them, but people don't like them! A Customs rock, a nice fat crash sound without being too harsh. My Zildjians of choice without a doubt, though I'm migrating to HHX now

Sorry, but I don't like Z's at all. I used to, I've owned 2 19" rock crashes in the past, but they break. Everyone I know who has ever owned them breaks them really fast, and it's not technique at all, it's because they have no volume except super-loud and so you have to play them 'wrong' in order to make them sound 'right'. There's nothing wrong with my technique, I'm precious about my cymbals because I can't afford to keep replacing them, hence why I stopped using the 19" Z rock crash. The 'shit sound' was a flippant jokey remark, I think some people need to chill out about their cymbals ffs.

And honestly, I'm not a fan of being patronised, so please dont do that

Comparing Z's to camber or zbt's is not even a valid argument. I'm not here to argue. If you want to play other cymbals then enjoy...I don't knock drummers choices of brass. The folks listening to what you play will know. I play A's and A customs also (as you can see in my pics and hear in my vids) and love them but I dont compare professional level cymbals to entry level cymbals. Come on!! P.O.Y!

I think the only thing that matters is whether or not you like them or not. And just because something is labeled as 'professional' doesn't necessarily dictate 'good'.

That's all opinion, yes, but don't gripe about everyone having an opinion then knock someone elses

Likewise, just because something is labeled "shit" by someone who (for what ever reason) had a bad experience with them does not necessarily dictate poor quality

They are badass cymbals but they can cut thorugh a little to much i use
Z and a customs. They sound great for live but for recording you may want to
chose a diffrent series.

are you sure its not your hitting cause i havnt cracked any z custom crash and i have had em for a few years.

im sure, ever since i got my meinls i have been good to go,

my z's use to bread toward the edge or around the bell, and alot of my friends have had the same problem

I am not fond of them. I play gigs that require me to own cymbals that have a good dynamic range, and Z cymbals are pretty much loud and only loud.

They work very well for harder / heavier styles of rock and especially work well for any type of metal genre. I have a couple of these bad boy medium and projection crashes, and they sound beautiful when thrown in with the guitar and bass mixes.

Z's are heavy ass cymbals....they'll cut through concrete I think...No worries man. If your looking for something to cut through, especially if your a heavy hitter they'll do the trick. I'm a K / K dark/ K Custom guy myself.

iv got 16 and 18" crashes and a 20" ride.personally i love them.have had them about 2 years,beat the hell out of them and they aint broke yet.like the sound of them cos there loud and yes,they will cut through pretty much anything.imo they record pretty well too.
although i wouldnt mind a set of A hi-hats.look pretty swish and sound awsome.
