I hate the aspect of American consumerism that says there has to be a "best" for everything.
This is an art form and as such the "best" products are the ones that work for you and your musical vision.

It's all one's opinion. I have heard some people say that a cymbal, which in my opinion sounds like crap, is the best thing they have ever heard. I have my favorites as does everyone else....but that is all that it is...preference. Peace on ya!

there is no best cymbal, its all preference and what you think sounds best for what music you play. Experiment.

My favorite out of my kit is a 6" A Custom spash. I like to play it choked and it sits a quick wrist flick from my hi-hat.

A Custom Crash's are my favorite. Do yourself a favor if you're playing ZBT, ZXT or ZHT series, and go to the music store and crash an A Custom...its like a burst of brilliant sound, whereas those Z's are like trash can lids by comparison. Even many Avedis (A) series Zildjian's sound like trash can lids by comparison in my opinion.

Well put. That being said, I'm looking to buy some cymbals, what would you suggest? :p

There really is no "best" cymbal. It all depends on the person playing it. There are people who make the Sabian B8 series sound like the songs of a siren.

high end cymbals are individually molded as opposed to cheaper cymbals which are cut from the same sheet of metal. therefore if you took 3 or 4 of the exact same make, model, and sizes of high end cymbal and played them all they would all sound different whatever the best cymbal is is the one thats right for YOU. my favorite zildjian is my 20 inch k dark ride given to me by a friend who passed away, i treasure it for many reasons however it also happens to my my favorite sounding and feeling ride out of 5 ride's that i have

I totally agree. I got ZBTs for free with my set and was never happy with them. Didn't know what I was missing until I tried the A Customs. WOW! I bought a full set-up of A Customs. The crashes are my favorite. Now, I'm starting to get tired of the high-hats and want something a little more crisp...I'm thinking about going paiste.
The "best cymbal" is definitely subjective, but I wonder why people on here aren't at least giving their opinion on this thread.

I've found over the years it depends completely upon opinion and style of music.
Sometimes ive found when playing metal Paiste Rudes or Large A custom projections have suited really well, however have been too heavy and too loud for other styles of music where I have used fast decaying or more washy cymbals such as some of the K series. Anyone agree?

There is no "best" cymbal because it is true that some people can make the worste cymbal sound great.

tiny bit of keyholing, but I'd still buy it if I were in the market.
edit: if anybody's looking to buy an old k, the auction on this one has a day left, and it's at 700 bux so far. here's the link:

Dang, I wish I could afford those...
Since I'm poor, and love trashy thin Ks, these might be the ticket...

Hey, up to $25 back on a new ebay master card!!! LOL!
http://cgi.ebay.com/Zildjian-24-K-Istanbul-Ride-Cymbal-Paper-THIN-Vnt-60s_W0QQitemZ350084000250QQcmdZViewItem?hash=item350084000250&_trkparms=72%3A552%7C39%3A1%7C66%3A2%7C65%3A12&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14.l1318
Heh, hardly paper-thin. I actually know the guy who sold that pie to the guy who's selling it. It's really not too bad of a deal, as it's an investment piece for the most part. Considering the public record for a 22" K Istanbul old stamp (I believe it was around 2200 grams), was $3211 and change, and 24's are much more rare, it's not too bad. Could have a nice ROI, but it's going to take many years to cash in on it, me thinks.

I hadn't planned on it, but I bought a set of Bliss cymbals the other night at a local 5 Star Dealer. 20" ride, 18" crash, 14" hats. They're really cool sounding cymbals for the low $$.
I'll post a full-review in a few days, after I've had a chance to do some heavy playing and listening with them on a kit.
Oh, and just so I'm not guilty of completely highjacking this thread -- A Customs, Z Customs, and Ks are all great rock cymbals. If you're playing super-loud modern rock, the As are great. If you're more into the metal side, the Zs.
