its a risk im willing to take  im not bothered as much if i screw up a high tom, but if i killed a bass shell, i won't be very happy

did you polish the drum after you were done clear coating?
last snare i built was 16 coats of clear coat, sanding after the third coat, then every other coat after that.
on the final coat, i sanded with 400, 600, 800, 1200 and 1500 grit sandpaper.
applied two coats of car wax (any kind should do)
that gave it a definite shine.

thats realy nice im planing on doing something like that except the hardware is all going to be flat black with wood hoops and a dark green finish
