We shall never forget the man who started it all! He should be the number 1 influence in Metal druming and a legend to this day! His fast and furious double bass is what brough forth thrash metal drummng in the forfront! Plus his toms are groovy and he has killer snare drum that bites like an SOB! So watch out Lars and Charlie!

I don't even think of lars in the same way I think of either charlie benate or dave lombardo. charlie and dave are two monstrously talented players that inspire me every time I listen to either. I really do like some of the drumming on earlier metallica albums, but having seen all three live in their respective bands' heydays, Lars just doesn't live up to the other two. Actually, Charlie and Dave can still both thrash it out with the best of 'em.
charlie definitely has the best chops of the three, but dave has this primal fury to his sound and feel that nobody else does.

...but back to Dom, this guy is a machine! I saw him at a clinic a while back and was blown away by his abilities. He comes across as such a peaceful dude and then proceeds to attack his kit with the most furious aggression. Fast as %^*&, too!!

Dave Lombardo = Machine.
Brilliant drummer.
Although i've seen slayer twice and both times, lombardo's screwed up quite obviously!

Dave Lombardo was the very first drummer that I listened to, that did more than the 4/4 single kick beat kind of thing. He always will be my favorite drummer. He's just nuts. His work with Slayer, Grip Inc. and Fantomas is all just amazing.

Very possible I may not have picked up the drums had I not heard Lombardo & Slayer. Reign in Blood was just one of those things you listen and say "Damn, that's what I wanna be doing."

Listen to "Eyes of the Insane". His double bass has an amazing deepness to it!
Or "Angel of Death". His tom-work in that one is orgasmic!

i stood literally five feet from lombardo at the quest in mpls. during a fantomas show. i've always love his playing, but watching him play really drove home how awesome he is.
