What's your favourite material for your kit?
There are loads of woods being used to make drums today - what is your favourite and why? Mine is maple - the classic sound i think!

I'm very partial to cherry, but very underutilized by drum makers. A very warm-roundish sound.

I would love to use Cherry but it's not cost effective.
A 6.5 x 14 shell costs $236.00, that's for a raw shell.

I'm done with wood. I'll swear by Trick's good ol' AL13 aluminum alloy.

Well, I like the way my ludwigs sound, and they're maple with poplar sandwiched in between.
Birch is good. I can't really say THIS is my favorite wood. I like having options.

My Saturn Pro's are Maple & Walnut. They sound nice n' warm. But walnut?!?!...
Anyone remember Carl Palmer's custom kit made out of metal with cool design's engraved in them? I asked him once what happened to them and he said some old lady had bought them!!
...and I think Alan White from Yes has a glass kit. Must weigh a ton, man.

Love the mahogany toms on my Tama rockstar costom, very focused, but the kick has no balls compared to my birch pdp f-series. Everything has its use. Exept particle board perl exports.

I'm right there with you! I've never heard wood that sounded as "woody" as Aluminum sounds.

now, i could be an idiot, but are u serious about that? and although i only know the basics of woods sound qualities i know mahogany brings out low, and maple brings out the high, and i know lots of electric guitars designed for heavy metal have a mahogany body with a ply of maple so it gives it a natural drop in the middle, ideal for the heavy metal sound... well u see where im going with that. has/does anyone made/make a cross between maple and mahogany?
