I use a dm5 and axis pedals with e-kits for the past 2 years i also have ddrum bass drum triggers and the ddrum triggers you have to muffle you bass drum and tune low to get them working at optimum levels.
with the e-kits i don't have to muffle them at all if you tweak your dm5 you can use very little muffle even with bass drum mounted triggers just have to really learn your drum module things like cross talk /gain / noise/vcurve or sensitivity effect greatly how the triggers react and feel.
When you set up e-kit triggers you have to set the little detonator (little hammer that strikes the trigger ) you press the drum beater into the head but do not push the beater into the head too much just put medium pressure then set he hammer so that its just touching the trigger surface and tighten it now check it by slowly pushing and beater into the head and the little hammer should touch the trigger surface right when the beater head hits the skin you should not hear the hammer hit the trigger before it hits the head you can hear if this is happening will make a click sound you get that set up you should be good.
