Post Voodoo series
Im thinking of getting a Voodoo series 14" China, however, theres like sub-series:

M Loco
Brilliant
Pre-aged
and,
Trad.

What do you suggest?

Im looking for something thrashy with a quick decay maybe or medium quick - if you get me.

I think the Pre-aged one is a no for me, as i dont really like the finish.

I have a Pre-Age and really like it. The finish looks great in person.

+1 on the trads, but I think the M loco series voodoo has a very trashy sound with quick decay.

Ask Jaime his name on here is Saluda Cymbals send him a message he'll know for sure.

He's posted a couple of things in the Saluda section.

I have a 14" Pre-Aged Voodoo China. The decay is very short, and the sound is quite trashy. In all honesty, the decay can be a bit too short sometimes. If you are looking for a super fast, trashy cymbal, it'll do that perfectly. If you want a China with a bit more decay, but still that trashy sound, a 15" or 16" may be more up your alley.

I own a 16" Voodoo Brilliant, and it's one of my favorite cymbals. Ever. Great and super trashy. You really can't go wrong with any Voodoo.

I have the 17" Pre-Aged. I don't think my is as trashy as some, but it sounds great. The decay is longer than other china's I have used in the past and have it works well with my set-up. I have a smaller china but not a Saluda for quick trasher sounds.

kevin, do you think that jamie could make a voodoo with a turkish or european style bell instead of the chinese style? the reason i ask is that i have 2 chinas on one stand post. currently i have an 18" zbt underneath a 12" wuhan, but i'd like to replace the zbt with something darker and trashier (preferrably saluda), but i need to keep the same positioning and i couldn't do it with 2 chinese bells. any thoughts before i ask him?

You know, I'm not sure on that one. I know that outside of Voodoo, the other chinas available all have Euro bells, but not having played any of them, I really can't recommend any to you honestly. Jamie may be able to do that, but you'd need to call and talk with him about it. I do know that Mist-X, Diamond, Earthworks, and Symbolic all have Euro bells on their chinas.

i know that the rest have them but i'm looking for something trashy like a voodoo but without the bell. i think i'll just have to email him about it and see what he says. thanks though.

All this talk of little chinas is making me think about ordering a 13" or a 12" diamond china (pre aged finish, and a 8" diamond splash (pre aged finish) and turning them into my own max stack. (or should I use diamond and another series like earth works or ion to get two diffrent sounds)?

That, my friend, is only limited by your imagination. Wink

i always keep an eye out on ebay for saludas and it seems that jamie makes a good number of actual stacks...usually a hybrid x small top china over some kind of specialty mist x splash. talk to him and see what he can do.

how do these stacks work? Do you just plunck one cymbal on top of another?

Pictures for ideas?

What do they sound like?

Saluda has an ebay auction up now that's a stack of a Hybrid X china on top of an Earthworks crash. You should check it out if you're not sure how to make a stack. It has pictures and everything.
Here's the link:
