Nice car, dude. I've always like El Caminos. I take it that it's not a real SS since it looks so cherry and real ones are $20k cars.

Your first car is an El Camineo ss? That is just not right. You should trade me my Astro so I can have a great ride like that.
That is one sweet ride man. And if I were you I would think perhaps a bed cover so you can haul your drums around. Or pehaps cases for your drums. Congrats

that's an awesome ride. pretty jealous.
also, delete your last post, or at least the VIN. that's more info than you need to be revealing about your ride on a public web forum. no reason to make yourself any more vulnerable than necessary.

Haha, this is a Chevrolet El Camino SS with a 305 c.i. V8.
It's the car that hauls... in more ways than one.

Right on. My first car was a 1987 Honda Accord. Four door sedan. Pop-up headlights that were stuck in the up position. NICE RIIIIIIDE!

Nice score for a first ride. Mine was a 70 Pontiac Tempest, 4 door, holes in the floor like Freddy Flintstone. I miss buying illegal inspection stickers for $50. Good luck with it!

You know Scott I have noticed that East coast cars tend to be less expensive because of the increased humidity which causes rust. West coast cars seem to run 2-3K more. I thought it was just me but it proved to be true back when I bought my Harley. Check it out. P.O.Y!

An El Camino SS in Cali, in that condition, is worth close to $20k. For $3500 you can pick up a rusted out POS that needs the floor pans replaced and other major body work. A '56 Bel Air two door hard top in similar condition runs around $5k.

Wow! I didn't realize that the difference was so high. I bought my Harley about six years ago so I figure that my figures must be off. P.O.Y!

There's a high demand for hot rods out here.
Otherwise you're pretty much right on with prices being $2-3k higher for regular cars.

Nice SS man. 85? Gotta be choked pretty well if it's still stock. Even with the 305. You should swap in an LS2 or LS1! lol I used to have an SS, but it was a 6 speed, 430rwhp, LS1, 2001 camaro SS! Love and miss that car. Have fun with it but be careful, especially for a first car.

good luck not wrecking it. i know a lot of people, myself included, who lost their first car (in my defense, it wasn't my falut....18 wheelers don't exactly have mercy when they t-bone you). yours is a bit nicer than mine was though. i have a friend who has a restored el camino with a new 305 crate motor in it, and it looks a lot like yours except that it's still primered.
have fun with that thing.

Good job Brian. Those are sweet cars. You got a good deal on it too. A buddy of mine had one souped up to 600+ Hp without the NOS and he sold his for 12,500 even after he twisted the frame.

Haha, sh*t, you can't NOT twist the frame with 600 horses.
I'm thinking of building up the motor a bit and getting it to 327" and throwing a twin-turbo kit on there.
I would supercharge it but, I'm 18....and....I'm poor.

Just work on it slowly.
Yeah, he had it beefed up with ladder bars and heavy duty blah- blahs, but he said it actually pushed over 700hps with the two stage NOS. I think he may have broke a motor mount to cause the frame tweek. Have fun with that baby.
Yeah, all that stuff would be post posi and reinforcement upgrades so it's gonna take some time.
