I am not 100% sure when the the quick beats were introduced, but I believe it was in the 80's. Besides the very heavy vented bottom hat, they were marketed as having "a touch of Paiste" in the alloy. While this has never been confirmation that the Zildjian secret alloy was altered for these particular cymbals, I have a theory as to why they were referred to in this way.
Z's most popular hats during the 70's and 80's were the New Beats. The key feature of these hats which set them apart was the difference in weight between the 2 cymbals. The bottom cymbal was 15 - 20% heavier than the top cymbal and it gave the cymbals a brighter character that was able to cut through the modern music being made at that time. Enter the Quick Beats.
The QB's bottom cymbal was TOTALLY different. The cup was erased completely and vent holes were drilled into it. A flat cymbal, like a flat ride for instance, has a defined stick, but the "wash" is minimal and can be best described as "glassy." The vents allowed air to easily escape from between the 2 closed cymbals making the stick sound even more predominant that the New Beats.
Now, at the time, the fundamental tone of Paiste cymbals was, and still is in many of their current lines, very bright and glassy. Therefore, when the Quick Beats came out, their brighter, glassier nature resulted in comparison's to the Paiste tone. Many dedicated Paiste players found the tone of Quick Beats very appealing, and still do.
Now, in regards to the specific year yours were made, it's tough to say for sure. Zildjian started using serial numbers within the last 10 years, I believe. New Avedis line cymbals actually have the word "Avedis" inked on the logo above and smaller than the "Zildjian" logo.
The market seems to fluctuate with these cymbals, but a value between $125 and $150 plus S&H is not unrealistic. Besides a little fading on the logos, the cymbal appear to be in very good shape.
On a side note, if you have any other 14" hats, try mixing and matching other single 14's with the Quick Beat bottom; you may be pleasantly surprised with the sounds you could achieve.
