it really wont improve your playing, buy a small electronic kit or a pad setup kit. Rock band is fun, dont get me wrong, but it wont make you a better drummer...

Are you guys missing the blatantly obvious point that by playing the drums on Rock Band you're playing to metronomically perfect music and playing music you might not otherwise play?

Yes, playing this game will help you tremendously if you don't already practice to a metronome. Especially if you put in those kinds of hours. I would recommend you spend some of that time playing rudiments on a practice pad, to a metronome, though.

It helped me learn one new drum technique. I play Rock Band just for fun. I don't feel any flattery when I beat anything. It annoys me when people beat one of the hardest songs on guitar hero, and they go around and brag about it. Yet they don't play a real instrument.

What annoys me is when people play a real instrument but spend more time trying to get 100% on GH or RB than they do with their actual instrument.

yes without a doubt. But only for timing. getting around the kit is alot different than it is on a real set. so it doesnt improve chops.

But as far as playing steadily for long period of time your absolutely out of your mind if you think rock band isn't gonna help wit that. Rock band can do wonders for your timing

I think that playing to a record is good for your drumming whether you're playing a real kit, pillows or the game's kit. It helps you concentrate on the time and the material being played. Now, if you want to be a good drummer, then you gotta play drums. You can't really practice technique on the game though, because the songs don't have parts with rudiments... they're just beats so it doesn't really translate into good technical practice. It does help you playing time though. But again, you can do that with an Ipod, a pair of sticks and a pillow.

well me personaly think its fun but i like all of you guys said i am annoyed when people are like "omgzz i own at guitar hero but all i can play on guitar is the fake version of smoke on the watterrrrrr". I own the game and i dont play it that much because if you are playing it to get better at tempo or anything then
then go practice on a practice pad with a metronome and head phones.

I don't consider my self a 'drummer' yet since I'm still a newbie to playing but I play a lot of RockBand and I have to say - No it will not teach you how to play drums. But it WILL help you with timing, as well as splitting your right arm and right leg (if you're a righty, left if you're a lefty). And this is truth, it helped me a lot with splitting my brain between right arm and right leg.

It's much 'closer' to the real thing than Guitar Hero of course, but it's not nearly as complex as playing on a real drumset.

Yes it did, because it helped me split my right leg and my right arm as well. I can do those quarter notes on the hi-hat, while keeping a steady beat with my other arm and my leg.
