Post joey jordison? whats wrong with him
Im new to this site and it seems like everyone here thinks they are the s**t when they have a swing at joey jordison, what is so bad about him? i can totally understand if u dont like his style, personally for metal drummers i think the guy from mudvayne (i cant remember his name) is the way to go. but for skill i think he is like a german engineered machine, he's just crazily precise with the timing and strength of hits. i dont care if u dont like him, but can someone justify it to me why they dont like him, other than they dont like his style. also watch this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zy1YaLe1D0E its a clip of "purity" by slipknot and look at the beat in the verse, that would have to be one of the most impressive beats, i personally, have seen. cheers

It's all opinions. I personally find that he can be overrated and that all these people I know think that I need to buy all his signature crap because he owns.
He's good for the music he plays and stuff, but there are better metal drummers out there IMO.

When I finally learned it, I was so happy it was slightly frightening.
Gadd is probably one of my fave drummers.

i personally don't like JJ. im not saying he sucks, but that video was not impressive at all. it was just basic double bass beats. i have seen him do better than that, and he is good. i just don't like that kind of music, and i think he is a little overrated even though he has plenty of talent.

That's the first thing I've ever heard JJ play. Thanks for turning me on to him. He's got a great organic feel. I really like where he comes from. It's almost like Second-line drumming, what he plays.

Here's what I'm into.....I could NEVER listen to anything ever again and be completely content with this guy's music:

I've liked his playing since their first album came out. For me, it's not so much what he plays as it is how he plays it.

And that music is intense.

I have nothing against JJ. He does what is required of him very well. He's just like old Travis Barker in that resepct.

Nothing's WRONG with him at all, he's very well suited for his style of music. I just personally don't like that style of music, so I don't like him as a drummer.

He also kinda scares me...

He's a good player: versatile, good feel, clean technique. He plays parts that go well with the music. Not the hottest drum technician on the planet, but he definitely plays musically and with gusto.

Many folks feel that musical taste is an objective quantity, and get offended if folks "make it" playing music they don't like. Either that or they feel they should be more successful than they are, and bashing people boosts their ego.

I can tell your either young, or havent been playing for very long. And theres nothing wrong with that. As you get older and learn more about the art that is drumming. you'l relize why joey is just another fish in the sea of drummers. He has good chops. I wouldnt say theyre any faster than mine. Hes got fast feet. I know theyre not as fast as mine. I dont like his blasts much. theyre kinds weak. That beat hes playing is decent at best. I like him/ and i like his drumming. I just madkes my dye laughing when someone says hes the best drummer out there, the fastest drumer out there, or the best metal drummer out there. He is none of those. If you wanna check out metal drummers that are actually pushing limits and breaking boundaries you can check out gerorge kolias and derek roddy (gee who saw that comming)

When you are older and know alot more about drumming. you will be more impressed with clyde stubblefield playing the fatback . or gadd playing the 50 ways to leave your lover groove then anything joey has ever played

I wouldn't think joey would actualy want a cheap snare as his signature snare.

It obviouse that they just saw that as the best marketing idea. Alot of JJ fans are younger kids that dont have $500 to spend on a snare drum. not to mention alot of the same drummers who arent exactly looking for tuning range and sensitivity. a cheap drum was a smart marketing choice

Like the only person I know who actually has one-who bought it of craigslist for $65 to replace a forum snare and still wanted to grind of the tribal Ss
If guys want to use this as a valid criticism of Joey I could start looking up all kinds of gimmiky crap that has other more "well respected" drummers's names plastered on it, and we can compare.

Watching his videos Hes faster than me with the foot foot-hand hand thing. Clean too. Theres no doubt that he can do alot of things i cant do. and I'm sure with all the practice he gets hes more consistant too. I'v always been a fan of his playing as well. In no way do I hate him or his playing in reality
Its not about that, Its all about the kool-aid, People just drink it. and they love it. Besides, everyone knows hating Joey Jordison is heaps of good clean fun

anyone who thinks any one player is the best is not really keyed into the fact that drumming should be regarded as an art first and a craft second. just as no one sculptor or painter is the best, there is no one "best" drummer. sure, maybe one player speaks to you in a voice that resonates with your experience more than the others, but there is no objective standard, nor is one possible.

haha, i used to love icp. but i'm not gonna lie through my teeth and say they have talent. theyre niche lies in entertaining and putting on a show.

I must say Joey is overrated but he's still a great drummer. He has a sweet groove in every song. He doesn't get too wrapped up in being technical like a lot of these new guys. Slipknot itself, is another story though.

No! no! and no! although shaun(the clown) does basically nothing but play keg and those massive drums (which he supposable made and their titanium, so i have no idea about that) the rest of the band are actually talented. If u get a chance listen to "Do nothing/Bitchslap" off their ep, and u will hear how wicked the bassist is and if u listen to "Pulse of the maggots" you will hear how crazy the guitarist is, and (believe it or not) the singer is actually a good singer, perhaps not opera material but good none the less. And the DJ, is the head of his local area in some association for dj-ing... or something. So they are all actually quite accomplished on their instruments, and JJ isnt half bad on guitar or bass either.

Glen Benton, James Murphy and Joey Jordison? Didn't see that one coming, but I like it. Joey's got chops, knows how to play what's right for a song and is clearly a pretty talented drummer. These are always fun to read but I'm about to throw up in my mouth from all the "he's awesome/he sucks" debates.

To be continued....

Jaundiced, you hit it on the head buddy. It does become tiring to debate if said drummer sucks or not. But I think with JJ we have an interesting situation where, because of fame and success, opinions (good or bad )are formed, not based on ability. Sad. He is a good drummer. But, guys like you, dose, and goat could prolly school him on a thing or two.......Thats where it is, I might be able to play ONE thing better than you, but you could show me something in return. In short, it's very subjective to gauge ones' talent.

That projecct is Roadrunner United.
The song is Annihilation by the Hand of God
what Roadrunner Records did was grabbed a bunch of the musicians from different bands signed to their label and then sorted them into teams.
there are also captains:
- Robert Flynn (Machine Head) - Team Captain
- Matt Heafy (Trivium) - Team Captain
- Dino Cazares (ex-Fear Factory) - Team Captain
- Joey Jordison (Slipknot) - Team Captain

Some pretty good songs on there. the album is called the Allstar Sessions.

Anyway, my personal sentence.
Derek Roddy is a massivly hyped drummer too... except he deserves it as he is what people say he is
