Better on your wrists, and you get more attack out of a drum if it's not angled like crazy.

Nice color on the kit though man.

generally i would agree but i think you should play however you feel most comfortable.

Flatter, but not flat.

You should, how should I put this, maybe think about not playing like a wild bashing caveman hunting down his night's meal. Hitting too hard actually makes your gear sound worse, not to mention the incredible wear and tear you're putting on your body. I know, I know, you're getting into it. I'm not saying you shouldn't, just that you might want to tone it down before an injury forces you to.

Cool kit! Not my fav colour, but hey, not my kit Smile
Its mean looking though. Is that a 20 diameter x 22 legnth kick?

-----------------------------

Since when does the angle of the toms have anything to do with the genre of music? Come on now Wink

You didn't know that? You have to have a certain kit setup when you play a certain genre. Otherwise, how else will you look like every other band on stage on any given night? Laughing

It's like bringing a 3 or 4 piece to play a Power Metal show.

Would just look odd.

awesome pic. I never get pics like that because I play so relaxed, and always keep my elbows into my body.

i would recommend getting someone to take pictures of you with the shutter set to stay open a bit longer, it shows the motion of your arms that way and looks pretty frekin badass if i do say so myself

its about how the stick strikes the head, if you hit at angles like that, it wears your heads out faster and you dont get as good of a sound out of that hit. and about the metal thing it just seems easier to transition when they are flatter.

Digging the kit-I love that color.
Which bass drum do you have? The 20x20 or the 20x22?

well to answer the many replies i didn't expect, thanks guys,

it's a 20x20- excellent sound- deep but crisp!

the 3x snare head is amazing, it's a marching head but i tended to go through a typical remo fast so i switched about 10 years ago and haven't broken a snare head since! the projection is amazing, i like a stark contrast from the rest of my kit which i tune really low, so it's amazing, it's like a pistol shot!

i played around with that tom ofr a long time before settling it in where it is now. it's unconventional, i know, but it feels more natural for th way i play and it sounds great! i haven't had to change the head yet and it's been almost a year! soon i will add the 8x10 add on tom and complete the kit, the second bass seems overkill and hard to tune anyway!

here is a blog i did on my drumming and why i do it the way i do it, mostly i can't help it, the energy of our music is furious and i feel i have to be too!
here's the blog

so I've seen my fair share of great drummers, all with their unique take on the smashing,

Vinnie Paul- straight up barbarism, vinnie is a huge inspiration in the way i play
Dave Lombardo- slaying speed, dave has inspired me to be faster and faster
Chris Emery- chris has such a similar style and what a fuckin dude ta boot
Dave Mclain- amazing technique, awe inspiring

so to me drumming is all sorts of things, but most importantly, fun!
I've played with alot of bands around here and alot of theis guys wipe the fuckin floor compared to me and that's cool, I'm not tryin' to be the best but I am trying to bring something alot of drummers neglect, energy, passion, BALLS OUT MAN!
Tons of people just concentrate on playing and that's cool, but as much as i love chris adler for example, he's not entirely that entertaining to watch, he just plays. now this is understandable, i can't hold a candle to lamb of god, but I guess what I'm tryin' to put down here is that you can be the best damn drummer in the world, but if you look like your bored, well what the fuck? put some umph in it!
I could probobly play more technical stuff i guess, but I'd rather compliment the music by playing what i think fits, get it down pat and then just freak out! it's so much more fun for everyone man, so much more of a conection with your audience when your putting as much itno it as the guy in the pit- and I'm sitting!

so in conclusion, freak out every once in a while, it'll do ya good! and your crowd will appreciate it.

LIAM! - Violent smasher of drumsickles

i beat the livin crap outta that ride and i could say it would function as a crash, as long as you kill it!
i have to play without shoes, i have to feel the pedals or i feel disconnected, it's weird and sweaty, but it's the only way to do it!
thanks again for all the comments guys!
