What are your feelings about covering metal songs (or any genre) as far as dynamics?

You have to be beating your stuff to a pulp for it to be sufficient, who cares about quality 0% 0% ( 0 )
Depends on the gear being used and its context 100% 100% ( 1 )
Medium as to have more headroom for louder spots and most likely better sound quality on camera 0% 0% ( 0 )
Soft...soft enough so we can hear you cut the cheese in the bridge 0% 0% ( 0 )
Whatever feels naturall, disregard anything about actual dynamics 0% 0% ( 0 )

My bretherin of drumming, I had entered the Meshuggah "Bleed" drumming competition with a vid of my 2nd time ever playing the song and what not with the intent of there being another official recording.

I just want some real drummer feedback on the vid (Youtubers aren't aways the best). Its nowhere near perfect but given I was the very first to post the full song whatever.

To clear somethings up ahead of time:

1) Some cymbal parts are altered as it was difficult to hear through the headphones(playing through a little zen) , so don't complain "He hits he china there" i know lol! Nowhere near perfect but my foot fell asleep but got it done nonetheless.

2)It's only the SECOND time I've even tried to play the blasted song but didn't get the chance to do another shoot, just to clear this up for some of you.

3)foot pattern was a bit easier to articulate at this time with a little less energy/volume (I'm playing on PDP 402's for crying out loud)

4)Garage door is open and I've already had cops called on me for playing too loud, so a few more calls could result in them confiscating my gear, which would not be cool at all. The garage is only open for sufficient lighting for the camera and because I know how to play with dynamics.

Without further adue, the video

The parts sounded somewhat accurate, but it's difficult to tell with the variances of timing in your playing. One of the great things about Meshuggah is there dead on timing which you have to have when everyone is playing those types of rhythms. I would suggest if anything that you work on more accurately subdividing the beats into even sections as to clean it up a bit.
