Post longer sticks
i made a new purchase today
i usually play vic firth 2bns
but i'm learning, well more like improve some of my techniques...
moeller, push-pull, "one handed rolls", stuff like that
and i was watching dave weckl's push pull and he said if you're learning these
try using longer sticks...
so i went to the gc,
went in got a practice pad and started playing around with stuff...
wasn't happy with anything but then looked under my normal 2bs
and their they were
vic firth "metal"
same diameter as my 2bs, two inches longer haha...
they're perfect
i was pleasantly surprised

anyone play with them?

I play the Vic Firth Rock which I think are just a lighter version of the Metal.

i'm pretty sure they are,
the length is awesome..
but i didn't want to loose the thickness of the 2b
so it worked out

They are 17" long.

I've played them since back when the were the "Tommy Lee" Signature sticks.
Lately, seems the quality has gone down hill. I buy em by the brick and there
has been alot of weight difference from one pair to the next. Someone told me
the way they are drying the hickory lacks good quality control. Who knows.
To their defence, they have been a good reliable stick for alot of years.

I tried a set of Vaters, they are a great stick, I just haven't found the right combination with them yet, length, diameter and a nylon tip shaped right.

I absolutely hate those things. I bought a couple pair back when they were still called the Tommy Lee model. They are entirely too long for the way I play and hold the stick.

I use Dave Abbruzze signatures from pro-mark, they are just as long as the vic metals but have a bit more weight due to the short taper and it helps with the one hand rolls and push pull techniques. try em out see what u think.

My homie Greg uses them, and they are huge. I like the little extra length on the Pro Mark 747B Super Rock, but these are too much for me

I'll to look into those. Only problem is, I used promark years ago, they were made out of oak, they dont usually like a consistant rim shot on the snare. They just break in half.

I use a Silverfox HR, which is a little bigger dia than a 2B and 16 1/4 inches long. They also have a bigger acorn. I love them, they last forever, give great feel and despite their size, I've developed a lighter touch with them.

BTW, the Rock's and Metal's are durable as hell too. I've worn the Rock's down to like pencil thickness near the tip and they're still going strong. I'm about to retire them though.
