 cymbal angledems
i read on the sabian site that leaning a cymbal down too steeply while your playing is really bad for it and can damage badly, but loadsa people have a cymbal or two that are practically vertical.
i'm guessing that sabian arent wrong, but what about the other people, i'm guessing they know what their doing as well
so what do you guys say?

Too much of a tilt is just as bad as the cymbal being flat. This information doesn't stop many people from those positions, though.

it puts stres on the hole of the cymbal. eventually causing it to keyhole.

Which reminds me that I need to pick up clear tubing for new cymbal sleeves.

oh ok, i thought so, but why do you need clear tubing, whats wrong with normal?
and what do you lot thing of those rubber things that companies such as mapex use instead of felts?

PJ uses them. and likes them from what know. I'v always wanted the vater slicknuts, but a whole set wont be cheap

He's talking about what Mapex uses in place of felts. It's like a rubber isolation mount for cymbals...or something to that effect.
What we're taking about are cymbal sleeves that prevent the cymbal from touching the metal of the stand, to prevent damage to the cymbal. Clear tubing is like $.19 a foot at OSH (Orchard Supply and Hardware) compared to a few bucks for a pack of sleeves at the drum shop. I only have two stands that use sleeves, so one foot will last me a few years.

What is causing you the confusion? General knowledge and physics dictate that an increased angle on a cymbal will cause damage. As well as mounting one without felts and sleeves will also cause damage. SGarrett has a conservative alternate to buying store bought sleeves, as he purchases comparable substitutes at a great savings. How is that confusing?

Word. What's confusing about this? You need a sleeve and felts for any cymbal stand. Take the wing nut off of a stand, pull the top felt off, pull the cymbal off, and look at the little plastic tube on the metal post. That's a cymbal sleeve.
What Mapex uses instead of felts: http://usa.mapexdrums.com/hardware/accessories/index.asp. Instead of using a felt, they've made these little rubber deals that are supposed to be like suspension mounts for cymbals.

Angling a cymbal too much, damages the sleeve and cymbals should be angle a little bit.
