Heey I would like to know if anyone ever tried those Danmar metalkick or powerkickpads. It's a metalpad wich you can stick on you basedrum to get "the real heavymetalbassdrumsound"

So if anyone ever tried it, is it as good as they say it is?

I tried one of the impact pads for about 15 minutes before ripping it off. Not a fan~
I don't muffle my bass, and the pad gave it a 'basketball' kind of sound that wasn't there without it.
It's definitely effective, I just didn't like the effect.

If I could find mine, and if it'd survive, I'd be happy to try to mail it. I won't be using it...

its great if you like EXTREME clicky sounds. Like imagine And Justice For All x10. Then if you're doing double bass, its a pain because it makes a different click noise depending on where you hit it, so you'll have an extreme contrast of "click clack click clack click clack"

My recommendation is...no.

use plastic or wood beaters easiest way to achieve this sound. I f you really want clickiness tune your bass above the wrinkle point and have at it.

this trick is used by joey jordison. has a tight front head, his back head is just tight enough to take out all the wrinkles, then he has a large metal washer on the back head. thats what makes his bass sound so odd. plastic is very clicky with all attack and no low end. wood is about the same but duller. and felt gives you a lot of attack but without a big annoying click clack click clack and gives you a lot of lows. if you want the effect tape a big metal washer to you bass. don't spend a lot of money on special badges.

I use them with my Axis sonic hammers, and muffled shells, I like it alot. Really cuts through the guitars and vocals.

taping a washer to your bass head would be no good. what kinda tape would you use?

well although i dont have a washer with mine, rather than getting one of those pads i got duck tape and went back and forwards a little creating this sort of pattern -^^^- And it mutes it like i was hoping and that isnt ever beginning to come off. My friend actually bought pads similar to the ones this guy is thinking about and they actually started peeling off so he has his stuck down with ductape. Also if u are worried about only one hitting it with a double kick u can get some that are in a sideways 8 shap and made for double kicking.

I hate it so so so so much when people put any kind of tape where the beaters hit. Because when I then play a show and have to use thier kit, the tape wears down and my beaters get covered in sticky and stick and it's so so anoying!

That is an issue for sure. When my pads start to lose their adhesion, I CAREFULLY strip duct tape and just re affix the tape area, not the contact zone. Eventually the overlay breaks away, and then it's time for new.

I can see what your saying and i wouldnt advise anyone to put tape on their bass drum, but thats just what i do cause im the only one who uses my equiptment

I wasn't having a moan at you, just in general, sorry if it seemed like it was aimed towards you!

They're too "clicky" for me. It adds definition to very fast bass playing, but for normal use, it got very very annoying.
