hey u guys, i was just scanning through ebay and a thought occured to me. Although i dont think it would sound particularly good on regular toms or bass drum have any of u guys tried weird recording technique. At the moment i was concidering getting a harmonica/harp microphone for my snare, just for the hell of it and to see what happens. Any of guys tried weird shit like that? ant good results, and i scanned through the recording page and couldnt find a topic on this, if there is one direct me too it and i'll shut my mouth.

Drums are high SPL instuments, a rimshot can hit 125db., so mic's should be rated at 130db at the very least. I guess you could try using a harmonica mic' as a room mic', though.

You'll probably miss some high end frequencies, but should work. And as Garret mentioned if you are playing loud stuff you could get some nasty stuff from the capsule being overstraint.
But go have a try and supply us with some sample .wav files.
