Post Bosphurs/Istanbul likes and dislikes
I have played on both Boshpurs and Istanbul cymbals and have loved the sound of them. I have played on the traditional and the master series of the boshpurs and the ottoman of the Istanbul cymbals. What do you like about Boshpurs and Istanbul cymbals? What do you guys not like about these cymbals?

they're nice and dark sounding, very very cool. not the best at cutting through huge stacks of amps, but that's not what they're about.

those companies may make more modern/brighter cymbals, but all the ones I've played have been oldschool hand-hammered turkish style biz.

i've got an Istanbul agop traditional 12" china and at first i didnt like it a great deal, but i had never played alot with a china/mini china and after a while when u figure out to when and how to play it it is SOOOO nice... is that true for a lot of hand hammered cymbals, that there is nearly an art to playing it to get its best sound?

I think both companies make some fantastic cymbals. If I HAD to make a criticism, I would have to say that they're just not for everybody. Because their cymbals are all hand hammered, there will be more inconsistencies within the same series than cymbals that are machine hammered. Less experienced players generally will not appreciate the nuances of these kinds of cymbals. In reality, it's a non-issue as the price point will generally prohibit a beginner from buying these cymbals.

From the ones that I've heard, I prefer the Agops over the Mehmets. In the Bosphorus line, There are a ton of great pies. Their Master's series is fantastic, especially the light weight models like what Tony sells at cymbalsonly.com. I would like to pick up a Masters Turk ride in the future as well. Killer, killer pies.

All my cymbals are istanbul & I love them all. I have 2 sweet crashes, funky monkey hi hats, and vesir 20 inch ride. I get compliments on the cymbal sounds often.
In the last 4-5 year I have seen the price of these cymbals go up in price. I'd still buy them again even with the increase.

<-------------------my avatar is a pic of the istanbul factory where the workers are hammering away at the cymbals. all those round stacks are raw. Stole it from someone who went there. LOL hey at least i admit it.

The cymbal is plan to get after I get 15" Earthworks Hats from Saluda is an Istanbul Agop 21" Mel Lewis Ride (with rivets!). It sounds great, but thats as much experience as I have with Istanbul Agop.

I've got a set of 14" Istanbul Agop hi-hats and I've used these in most situations. I love the sound of them however I think they wouldn't suit everyone as they can feel a bit slow closed kinda like some K's do, but open them up slightly and they'll cut through anything!

I just added some 13" mel lewis agop hihats to my collection over the weekend. Wife had to scrape me from my drums just to get me to eat. Sounds very nice.

That looks nice... i love how sometimes u can just tell by the took of the metal that they are nice cymbals. Anyway i notice that they are 13" whats the sound difference between 13" and 14" i imagine they would be lighter sounding like the difference between a splash and a crash (but less extreme obviously) is that true?
