 a total NOOB
i'm new in the whole "drumming" thing and i want 2 know if it'll work if i don't have a kit at home,i'll totally depend on taking lessons in a center 4 this stuff,and how much does it cost 2 buy a kit in egypt,if anyone here is living there

i do both, it loosk cool when you switch half way through somethign as well. in the end, certain music demands open handed.
i spent 4 years without a drumkit at my hosue and only playign once a week and not at all during holidays and havign to tap my lap to practice... it helps with time keeping and stuff, but in the end you only really improve with a real drumkit. i got 50 times better in the 3 weeks after i got my kit.
qdunno bout the egypt question, buy international of ebay if you really dunno.

ok,the problem is: i can't use ebay coz of the customs and shipping stuff,that's gonna triple the cost AT LEAST,i've checked a local store and found that i can't buy a kit right now,at least unless i get a job,so i guess i'll stick 2 training for this period of time

I think you should learn BOTH! It really opens up all kinds of possibilities.

+1. Being able to play both is a pretty huge advantage. Also it'll strengthen your non-dominant hand which will be another big advantage. Having both hands at the same level is a great thing.

I pretty well do everything crossed over. However I am teaching myself to play open-handed as well. Still working on it though.

I play crossed when I play Hi-Hat, but I play open when I play Ride.

Im studying both. Ever since I saw Dave Mathews in concert, I will never limit myself to crossed playing.... besides, when I drop a stick it looks ccol...one handed thing you know?

i your new at drumming i advice you to master the foundations of one before expanding to the other...
if you try learning both at the same time, it would hinder your progress and will be sloppy...
