After owning these cymbals for a little over 6 months i thought id give a small review how i feel about these budget cymbals, now i have used all 3 major budget cymbals (ZBT,ZXT,B8,PST5) before making a decision what i liked best.
what i wanted in a cymbal was something a little on the bright side with a good shimmer that could be used for multiple music genre, something that was affordable and sounded like a more professional cymbal than a tin can, i found the Paiste PST 5 series.
these are the sizes of the cymbals i own and what i like and dislike about them.
14" thin crash - very crisp bright sound, quick decay, decent volume, almost no annoying overtones when tapped, the bell however sucks and is weak.(to be expected)
16"medium crash - bright sounding, medium decay, lots of volume, slight annoying overtones, bell is decent, this is a good over all crash, mixes with a variety of styles.
18" thin crash - warm sound with lots of shimmer, very loud, medium decay, sounds great lightly crashed or tapped, washy overtones, bell sounds good with decent volume, mixes with almost all style of music, no complaints on this cymbal.
20" medium ride - warm sound with great stick definition, very loud, bell is loud and clear sounding, washy overtones, does not crash well, a great over all ride.
10" splash - i dont know whats up with this cymbal...... it has horrible overtones and just doesnt sound right, i think maybe i have a reject on my hands that got through the line, cant really say this cymbals sucks due to the fact all the rest of them sound terrfic, its 4 months old so i may return it for another.
as always Paiste has sound files on thier site if your still unsure what sounds to expect.
i think these cymbals are the best money can by on a budget, i havent bought the hihats yet(still using ZBT's) but soon i will, i hope i helped anyone thinking of buying budget to check these out before buying something else, i am not a pro drummer but have played music for 15yrs(guitar) and these cymbals stand out to my ears, i am glad i bought these after using ZBTs and ZXT's for a few months when i was a super noob.
thanks for looking.
