buddy actually had a lot more reserve at his disposal than most people realize. there are some nat king cole sessions where buddy played drums, and he did mostly brushes. there's barely a fill on any of the tunes.
I love guys who can play with so much reserve but still sound so cool. Simplicity FTW!

well, if you asked buddy who he thought the best ever was, he'd usually say "chick webb". chick was a MONSTER.

I think one thing needs to be understood: this era was the beginning of drumkit playing. The bass drum pedal was invented in 1909, only a couple decades before the big band era. These folks were blazing trails. It wasn't like today where there was a solid tradition of drumset playing to draw from and build on.

DML has inspired me to pick up my sticks 10 times more than I used to. This place is great. I hear about all the things other people in this world are doing and how great it makes them feel and when they are frustrated, they let us know so we can help them over that rudimental challenge. Buddy Rich- not even on my top 10 list, but I repsect him and his talents. Imagining what he could accomplish now? Damn.
This place is nothing like any other forum I have ever seen. Down hill? Hah...go to a car enthusiasts forum! You want to know downhill and dirty? I was called an idoit my first post! Now tell me how inviting is that? Not at all. I barely frequent there now- I get sh*t on almost everytime I go there. I come here, I see drum topic after drum topic. I see sensible conversations and threads- foot pedals, snares, sets, lessons, cymbals, for sale items, pictures and videos. Everyone here has put something of value. Every video that is listed is put here for all of us to see and get something from it! Every tip has something of value for someone and if we find it to help us that much further- then awesome! It seems to me, everyone here is proud to show what they have leanred and discovered and only wnats the best for this community by sharing! even if they have been drumming for less than 6 months.
So what if there are differences. If there werent, we'd be Flute players! As long as we keep the peace, spread the Respect and agree to disagree..we got it made.

i agree with that. I have only been here a few months but its really good. But one thing- "As we post underneath the drums my life logo we need to remember what it is all about. So many time... TOO many times have we over looked the message underlying that glorious name... 'community and family' sure we post about drums but we must post like brothers and sisters, mothers and fathers, uncles and hairy aunties, cousins and second cousins you've always found strangely attractive. So next time you post do not quarrel over opinons, instead remember that banner and post proud."
Then you all reply-
"DUCKS FLY TOGETHER!"
Mighty ducks 2... best movie ever...
