Post Raw & Mixed Drum Tracks Wanted
Hi. for the past few days i've been mixing my own drum recording on Logic Pro 7. It's going pretty well but i wanted something to refer it to. Does anyone know where i could get some raw drum tracks from and then a mixed version of the same tracks? That would be really helpful. I'm mixing for a modern blues/rock track.

Thanks,
Thomas

It's mostly about the EQ, reverb, and compression.

This link helps with the EQ: http://www.drum-tracks.com/NEWdrumEQ.htm

For the effects, I use both Cubase's onboard effects and a program called Vintage Warmer that I recently picked up. Generally you want to mix your overheads a little quieter than the drum mic's so the hats and ride aren't blaring through the mix. I like to mix the kick about even with the bass and put the snare a little up front of that so that it's prevalent without being over-powering.

I always like to put up a room mic when I'm recording drums. It helps round out the overall kit and gives it a livelier sound.

Room mic's plus overheards, or just room mic's? I've thought about using my AE5100s as room mic's when I get a set of Blue BlueBird mic's in the future.

Generally both but if I don't have enough inputs I will use one room and one overhead. And you don't need to have the level cranked on the room mic, just a little bit can go a long way.

The best way to see if you like something is to mute it and see how much is taken away. If you can't notice a difference after you mute it, it's probably unneccessary.
