I stumbled across a set of Catalina's in the Mod colour scheme (with the rally strip)in a music shop last month. I gave it a tap around and was amazed at the sound. It reminded me of a vintage kit. Usually I find all other kits in that price range sounding hopelessly generic and pop/rock sounding. I once tapped around a Drum store showroom on all the usual £500-£600 suspects(Tama, PDP, Sonor,Ludwig,Yammy bla bla bla) and apart from some tuning pitch differences I swear they were all made in the same factory. Those Cats though were different. And all for £500 including the Snare! Should of had them there and then.

It looks to me like the Catalina Birch kits have been discontinued. There's no more at GC, or at Musicians Friend. I looks like 599.00 for the ash kit is as good as ya get. Thats for 6 drums though, it's a smokin deal!
