 Oooo shiny new snare......
I just bought a 1967 Ludwig Suprahonic. Been looking for one for a while, as I didn't have a decent metal snare and obviously they've a great track record.
There is a vintage drum website I found a couple on, starting at £350... then I found a deal on ebay, same amount but in $$$... so with the exchange rate I got the snare for just over half the price of the one in England. It's in really good condition, strainer is pretty smooth, internal dampener is working perfectly too. I was really pleased about that. With posting I got it for just over £200 all in.
Took it to practice straight out the postage box and my bassist turned to me and said "that snare sounds great". Made my night that did, as I'd not even looked at tuning it up.

Can't wait to record with it.

That drum is in amazing condition for a 67 supra. I'm sure it sounds great. When you take it into the studio, the engineer's probably going to be your new best friend. Congrats!

Thanks guys! Dammow, when we meet for beers we should do a show and tell haha!
There is just one scratch on it, that's all. Apparently it was a one owner drum. I'm so happy considering the age and how little I paid for it!

Mmmm mmmm, that's a mighty fine lookin snare Rob. It looks to be in great condition! What heads are you running and how are you tuning it? I'm making friends with my new metal snare and its been quite the joy. Completely different flavour than the maple that's been my workhorse.
Rufus...totally digging the reggae vibe man. Nice playing! One of my fav genres. Been following both you and Rob...good stuff with your bands!

Hey Steve, at the moment it still has what I believe to be the original resonant on it and the top head is a Ludwig Vintage edition head of some description, hardly played. I have no idea what heads to try to be honest, suggestions more than welcome! As for tuning, I usually tune to a lower rock tone but I think I'll tune her up a bit and see how she sounds.
That difference in "flavour" is why I was searching for a nice metal snare. The only alternative to my Starclassic Birch Bubinga I had was a steel shell Pearl Export snare... nasty.
And thanks for the nice comment. See you at DRT and we'll have a beer!

Mine may dads when he was little. Needless to say, I had no Idea what I had untill I grew into it. When I got my first real drum set i was using the matching mapex M snare and had my ludwig jazz festival and my supraphonic just sitting there without head on them. I had no idea they were good snares, let alone amazing snares.
Right now I have a Black remo fallam II Kevlar head with the reinforcement dot, cranked pretty damn tight. the reso is a ambassador snare side I think. thats also pretty tight. snares are pretty much as tight as i can get them without choking the sound of the drum. all in all it makes for a dry crac that sounds not unlike a handgun.

WOW your lucky! I wish my dad would just give me a jazz festival and a supraphonic. That would be a dream come true.

My dad hasn't played drums in years tho hes messed around on my kit semi-recently and he can still play. My mom said she thinks the jazz festival came from a neighbor, but my dad thinks he remembers it from when he was little. so that ones a mystery.

Thanks for that does and seconded, lucky man for having a way cool Dad who kept them! My Dad said he used to play, but as soon as I got a kit and said he could have a go he declined.
