Post New Saluda Lathing
Life around Saluda:

Today was a pretty relaxing day. I was working on some super thin rides for a new online dealer that we will announce later. I had just finished up another order for a Tri-Hybrid which is a 3 part finish of a raw bell, brilliant body and lathed, traditional edges.

Anyway, there is a piece broken on my main lathe and I am too busy to take it to the welder to get it repaired. It has been broken for around 1 month now. I can't tell you what part is broken but it is an important part that made me change the way I lathe cymbals. I had this idea floating in my head for a few days to try a new method and I was tinkering around with the idea when I said hey, "let's try it". I figured it couldn't hurt (actually the lathe can slice and dice you - found out the hard way - a few times). So, I am messing around lathing and I noticed the cymbal looked different than normal. I kept lathing the front and the back of the cymbal and this ended up being the nicest lathing job I have ever done.

If it wasn't for the broken part, I would not have been able to create this new lathing technique. I guess I won't be repairing the lathe after all. If we had the time to take videos, I would demonstrate the new technique. It is pretty wild.

The lathing was done on a 17" Definitive Jazz. I will wait a few days to test the sound to see how it differs but I could already sense it is going to be a beauty.

This discovery won't result in a new series, as we have too many already, but it will probably change the way I approach all cymbals from now on.

Another thing: Many of you over the past few months have noticed differences in our Glory and Ion V series than those shown on the web site. We are milestones ahead of where we were a few months ago so our design work changes often. The Glory and Ion V's are getting close in appearance and sound so we might combine these or I might redesign the Glory to one of the other looks. There are a few ways to achieve the Glory series but only one main way to achieve the Ion V series to get its jazzier type tone. I have done one prototype for a proposed new design for the Glory series but I haven't attempted to recreate it yet so keep an eye out for a possible look change.

A big thank you to everyone who has been placing cymbal orders. We have been so busy it is unreal, but one great thing is it keeps me constantly working on cymbals and the ideas are flowing.

Jamie

sounds great. I am really looking forward to getting a new set of hihats from saluda...I already know what I want and thought I would have been able to order by now but certain circumstances have prevented that. However, I will be ordering within the next month hopefully.

Wow. I am in the exact same boat. I'm was going to order some new Saluda hats, but some financial problems came up and I had to address them, which left me with 0 surplus cash.

So hopefully sometime soon I will be trading Jamie my cash for his awesome cymbals Very Happy

Jamie, glad to hear your doing well and like Kevin said, you take the time to drop by. Still loving my cymbals, they came in just the way you said they would. Should be fun when I order some new ones. Thanks.

Damn, me too. I'm gonna trade in all my cymbals for saludas, but the price of metal has gone up, causing a $200 increase in my cymbal setup, and I'm sure shipping them wont be cheap either.
