Post Snare similar to this?
Listen to this for a while, especially the snare drum.
http://youtube.com/watch?v=IuTFkPD6khQ

I *love* the sound of that snare, it feels like it's exactly what I'm looking for. BUT, does anyone here know a snare by Pearl, Tama or DDrum that is somewhat similar to this? I'm asking because I could get these brands at a very discounted price. DW is probably above my price range anyway.

Thanks in advance.

If you click on more info, he lists all the gear he used.

DW maple 10+6 snare 14x6

If you want to hone in more, just send the guy an email asking what kind of heads, tuning, and sticks he's using.

Yeah, I saw. Smile That's why I said the pearl/tama/ddrum thing. I'd never be able to get to try out that snare in person where I live. They don't sell DW anywhere here. And I'm against buying snares online. ^_^

That's a shame. Some of the best deals I've ever gotten were from online sources. You just need to know the right questions to ask the seller. An educated consumer will generally have the advantage in most sales situations.

Also, remember that his snare sound isn't entirely within the snare used, though it does make up a significant portion of it. You would need to take sticks, heads, and tuning into consideration. A great drummer can make a terrible, but functional, snare sound great with the right technique and tuning.

Of course, you pay for what you get. A top of the line Pearl, like the Reference series snare, is going to run you $600+ (American dollars). Perhaps the Tama starclassic G maple would be an alternative, but I've never been a fan of Tama snares so I'm really not sure if it's going to be comparable to that DW.

A better option, depending on your budget, would be to talk to Timekeep69 about having a Medicine Man snare built for you. I mean, he's got a sound sample of what you're looking for, so if you provide him with a budget, he'll let you know if he can make it happen. It never hurts to ask.

when ur thinking about sound dont forget mics, even if it was just a mic inbuilt to the camera that still effects the sound and i think snares can sound good through nearly any mic, so that COULD improve the sound if thats ur taste. If someones tried this snare perhaps u can prove me wrong by saying that is exactly how it sound in real life but i dont think thats the case.
