Post Affordable Sturdy Stand
can someone tell me a good stand (straight/convertible) that is able to hold a Pearl AX-38 Multi-Clamp, 2 toms, and a 16" crash but wont go over my budget. A regular stand, none of those stands that include tom holders.
I perfer Pearl/Tama

how bout i buy like 2 single tom holders. I place one on my left side like on my crash and then the other one on my ride. so it would be the high tom on my left, a low tom on my right and right behind that one is the floor tom. is that a good idea?

no, but why go the affordable route and have the stands break on you in a few months, you should save your money and invest in dw

wotev. I've had a couple cheap a$$ gibraltar stands that have lasted for over a decade. the only reason to pay for dw stands is that they look great and have nifty features, both of which have nothing to do with how long they're gonna last. It's not like a bass drum pedal.

to me, "affordable" is different than "cheap"

all my current stands are DWs and i love them, but shelling out $120 a stand isn't feasible for everyone.

to me, honestly, nearly any heavy duty cymbal stand will last just as long, if not longer than a DW stand. hell, i've had my DWs for between 2-10 years and i've had some problems with nearly all of them... even if the problems are really minor... then i go home to my practice kit, and i've got some old pearl and yamaha stands that are really mid-range (they'd probably go for $40 new) and they've lasted me 10+ years with no issues at all.

on your real basic cymbal stand, there's not much that can go wrong. DW stands are great, but there's lots of things that can get messed up on them because of the features they offer. i can't tell you how many of those black tilter fasteners i've had to buy... special ordered... for $10 a pop...and nearly every DW stand i've owned has had a problem with the machine screw used to hold the boom arm assembly on to the base has falling out.
