just from the laws of physics i can't comprehend how the spring would compress. cymbals are pretty thin - it seems like the force would go right into the metal. seems like it would make more sense to have a spring under less tension; then the cymbal would sit between the two yellow cushions and the spring would compress upon being hit. right now it just kind of flails around in the 1/4" of space between the two yellow parts. i don't know. if you tell me it's working i'll believe you.

uh, maybe he doesn't like their hardware.

I don't get what you're saying about this open space in the middle. the cymbal springs I've see clamp down on the cymbal.
