yeah. actually, he did play the drums.
he played all the drums on 'colour and the shape' with the exception of 'doll' (the first song) and i think the intro of 'up in arms' (the slower part).
will goldsmith (of sunny day real estate & the fire theft - awesome drummer) played drums on that. despite being in the band for a few years, that's actually, as far as i know, the only song he ever played drums on in the studio.
he actually quit the band because he didn't like dave telling him how and what to play.
yeah, you are right on from what i have read over the years!
He is a big influence on me and i am also a big foo fighters fan!
I actually heard that he basically writes the drum parts for Taylor, and then T can elaborate.
yea man, i think he was doing that until 'in your honour' then on 'echoes silence...' let taylor have do his own thing.

Thats cool. I would think after a while, Dave would let him call his own shots. Plus, they are at a more comfortable fan base, and contract obligations, so Dave can relax a little on the control.

I've always compared him to John Bonham because he was a phenomenal drummer who came up with subtle yet creative ways to twist around common beats, hit hard but could groove like a madman, and played big drums.
Grohl has had a surprisingly profound influence on me as a musician all around.

Was never a fan of Nirvana, but he is kick arse in the Foo Fighters as a singer/guitarist. I love his voice. He's really amazing on drums with the Queens of the Stone Age on Songs for the Deaf. THat whole album is a great example of truly excellent rock drumming.

My biggest drumming influence. He made me want to start drumming in the first place. I was a big Nirvana fan and Dave's drumming on Nevermind made me wanna take up the instrument.
The drumming on Colour and the Shape was insane. Really great stuff. I love Dave.
