Post Developing Single Pedal Bass Speed
Okay... I'm not a beginner by any means... but I am self-taught... well... sort of... I used YouTube and lots of practice... anywho... YouTube has failed me recently... I cant seem to find a bass pedal practice for single pedal players... I want to get really really good with a single before I go to a double so I don't get lazy... Most of everything I found were paradiddles for the bass or heel-toe methods... I play an Iron Cobra and I have a size 11 foot... Heel Toe isn't comfortably possible for me... any advice or techniques?

Thanks A Ton Guys...

yeah constant release would a good one to try, there's also the slide technique here:

You should be able to do heel-toe with your set-up though, I'm a size 11 too and I haven't seen a pedal yet that I can't do it on. It always feels uncomfortable at first till you get a bit more used to the technique, so you don't have to abandon heel-toe completely.

To be honest though, I would recommend getting a double pedal as soon as possible, because the longer you leave it the more catching up your left foot is gonna have to do. I held out from getting a double pedal till I was comfortable with left foot hi-hat work, I think a lack of hi-hat skill is the only thing that should hold you back from getting a double pedal.

I found that just constantly playing bass pedal on every beat of a straight 8 beat rythm helps, and also I find it amusing that you say 'I'm not a beginner' but your DML status thing says 'beginner' I believe that you are definately not a beginner though, I have that problem, just felt like pointing it out Razz

My buddy plays single rolls on base drum- single pedal...he uses his toes only. Tap and drag...thats what it looks like to me. Heel up method with ankle motion only. Keeps the leg from dieing.... I still have a hard time with this. Worst day ever- trying to play double and all you get are fubbles..... Twisted Evil
