 Black Beauty question
I will be purchasing a Ludwig Black Beauty snare pretty soon.
My question is, what is the difference between the supraphonic snares and the super sensitive snares.

p-85 is just a standard snare throwoff.
super sensitive tensions the snares from both sides, and allows the snares to extend past the drum head. you can not use standard snares with a super sensitive throwoff.

The Super Sensitive is really more an Orchestral snare. btw,,,,, I'm not saying youn can't use it for any other musical style.
The Parallel strainer can be a nuisance and isn't as robust as the P85. As Alan said , you can't swap out the Snare wires on a P85, the Sensitive mechanism has one set last time i took notice.
I'd take the P85 anyday - and swap it out for a later P86.

Get the 6.5 deep version!
I got a 14x5 (or 5 1/2...can't remember) black beauty reissue about 3 years ago. While I LOVE the snare, it really would be more versatile in the 6.5" deep version.

Or swap it out for the Trick GS007

And special parts cost special money - good to throw that in Alan!
