Well I have used cheap metal snare drums in thepast one which was a no namer. Now I use a Pulse piccolo snare (14x3.5). Well share your cheap snare, yeah the ones that may sound awful, or break with cheap lugs (that happened once to me).

I just threw one of those away because it was seriously out of round. But damn, they sound remarkable good don't they?

Wow I thought I was the only one. Mine is too rusted to unscrew the lugs so I can't really change the head.

They had these 3.5x13 Pacific steal piccolos for $50 at Guitar Center and I bought it on a whim one day. Ended up using it has my main snare for lilke a year. Not until I realized it sounded like poop. The piccolo's snare wires broke and bottom head somehow got ripped...so I took them off and now use it sometimes as a timbale type thing.

If ya know how to tune, those rusty old chromies are great sounding drums.

i had the snare that came with my hohner rockwood sounding pretty good until the faux-metal (plastic with chrome paint over it) lugs started to go. i got a chad smith snare now which is still pretty low budget but better than the rockwood.

Hahaha. Nice. I had to beat the heads off of my mine with a 3lbs. sledge so I could strip it for parts.

Speaking of which, I forgot to bid on this Dynasonic shell. My high school had one of these with a butcher's block kit and I always loved it.

we have one of those at the rehearsal space i work at. when you unscrew the lugs on top the bottom lugs become loose as well and vice versa. ours is rusted as F*K as well

My 14x5,5 (I think it's 5,5) which came with my Tama Swingstar... the only snare I've ever had though. When I buy my superstar kit I'm gonna hold on to this snare and use it as an "overtone snare".
