Post All around new gear!
I am in need of some new stuff. I am no longer looking for what works, I am looking for what works for me. I know what sounds I want, I know what gear I want. Thats the easy part. The trick for me is knowing if I need something or not and if its going to help my playing at all...in addition I also have some tech questions. Figured I could post here.

1) cymbals: what not to buy? Found good deals at daddy's junky music online...just tell me what I should not get... whats bad?

http://www.daddys.com/used/?gear=&q=&department=15&p=6&sort=&hsortd=&sortp=

2) I need to hook up 2 cow bells to my bass drum.... for those fun latin beats and fills how do I do this?

3) thinking of double bass pedal..not double beater, but pedal. How do they work with the top hat? leave it open? lock it down?

4) in addition to the cymbals, I want 3 crash, 1 splash- different sizes for color....should I get a rack or get extentions?

thanks everyone for the help!

1. I'll say Zildjian A line. Most wont.
2. One off the HH one off the BD. Go to a drum store and get off line where you can see how they set up and work.
3. Get a HH clutch.
4. Both

Man! Everyone is getting new toys! Fun stuff! Good for you Smile

1) For me cymbals are the hardest thing to buy and they are so important. I always spend extra for good cymbals and sounds like you might be too. That site you listed looks great for used gear. That said, I would suggest buying them in person, especially since you are getting so many at once. You will be able to match them better that way as well. Some people think mixing brands is a no-no. I use paiste crashes, but mix everything else. Buy quality. Something to consider Smile

2) Do a search on MF or such for BD or cowbell mounts and you'll find something suitable and then comparison shop for price. I currently use the pearl CA100 for a large mambo bell - $25. Could probably mount two if the sizes are right.

3) Not sure what you meant here. Again, check them out in person. I'm a DW guy and love the 9000, but some dont because they are too smooth or complicted??? Find what feels good to you.

4) I dont like racks anymore. They are not efficient or practical for playing 130-160 shows a year. I have no roadies! They look cool though. Let your playing situation dictate your decision. Think years out, not right now.

*****The best advise I can give is this. You get what you pay for when it comes to hardware and cymbals. Cheaper is not better in almost every situation, unless you like buying twice or enjoy frustration with inferior junk. A busy working drummer should always spend extra to get quality. If you are just playing at home or gig a few times a year, then maybe not*****+

Enjoy Smile

NICE!!! THATS WHAT I NEED! Bell mount!

Hey, thanks for all the tips. THe Daddy's store is only 20 minutes form my house. I am going to go look at the stuff. I found a sweet Zildjian 8" splash for 20 bucks. Used, but looked good. HH cymbals, Ill check out in the store. Actually, all of these things I can look at and try. The double base pedal, I am looking at for down the road. The most I play MY drums is practicing. I gig once a month for the Army band, they supply me with an endless amount of toys! Anything I want to hook up or bring, they buy and supply!!!! Drumset, Timpini. Marimba? Sticks, bells, snares...we buy almost all DW stuff. Latin perc, black swamp? We get it all!

Keep ideas rolling....I think I like the Cymbal rack just cause I know I am not moving my stuff barely at all....but, cost wise, the extensions would be better.

Tama make good cymbals?

I have never used anyhting more than a zildjian I think. Well, the school had some sabians...beat to death... it seemed generations had banged on those...

I found these: Pearl 14" Hats
Cx300 Series at daddys. Almost brand new for 50 bucks. Any thought on them? I am going to look at them today!

can be viewed here: http://www.daddys.com/used/?itemnumber=PRL01068H

i've never really heard anything good about pearl's cymabls, just their drums. If they sound good to you, then get them. If you're looking at those cymbals then take a look at sabian and zildjian's beginner cymbals (sabian b8s sound pretty good for beginners).

Well, I went and checked out the pearls and the Tama stuff. Not what I was looking for. They all sounded crappy and not very "strong" as far as material. Like, I thought I was going to break them...tinny and no ring value.

I did how ever PICK UP THE 8 INCH SPLASH!!!! Its sooo cool to have a new toy. I have not bought anything for my set in like 16 years... I think the last thing I bought were heads for it. Maybe.

trying to get some pics up for you all.

I looked at cowbells and brackets... I know what Im looking for now. Gogo bells?

The thing with percussion is that you can pay $100+ for a piece of metal that doesn't sound as good for you as the chunk of scrap metal you found on the side of the road. Its all about that sounds you like and want. something that i wouldn't be caught dead playing can be the perfect sound for your style or current musical project. With your approach, I'd hit stuff, alot of it. find YOUR sound. regualrdless of whether other people think its good or not.
