I just experienced one of the worst feelings ever.
I got my PDP 805 Rev Signature kit last November. Now I realise that it would have been a much better choice to get a Ddrum Defiant kit. I won't list the reasons why I should have gotten the Ddrum's, but I feel like shit right now. ugh......And I also feel kinda bad because my dad bought me my PDP kit.
I guess I could get the Ddrum's as my next kit, but that won't be for a long time. I guess I could just get the shell pack though, and the two kits could share hardware and cymbals.
Whatever. I'm pissed...

That sucks bro! I know you said you didn't want to list the reasons, but I have to ask why?

You read about my drums turning yellow right? Black drums can't do that.
I thought I wanted a bigger kit than those. Now I am down to the same size kit.
Plus with the ddrum's, I could get the add-ons and have the same sizes as the PDP kit.
There is a 13" tom avaiable for the ddrum kit, not for mine.
The ddrum's didn't cost as much.
The ddrum's actually had a better feel and sound to them.
UGH!!!

I plan on getting it though. I am 13 so cash is scarce, but I can work with my dad over the summer, and help around the house and stuff like that. I want those drums sooo bad now. But I'll get'em. haha

Your PDP should be under warranty. If the wrap has yellowed excessively, contact your dealer for a warranty replacement........ or refund.

Unfortunately, he has varnished shells. Kinda sucks, because this is a brand new kit, and he's now lost even more resale by the fade. Sripping and or painting them would be costly and risky.

if i'm not mistaken, the defiant's are cheaper made, and are made of basswood. i have played them and they do sound nice, but i like the 805 series too. they are solid birch, and "upgrading" to the ddrum defiant will be more of a "downgrade" for you. when i started out i had a 12 piece kit, sometimes added on to 15 piece. now i'm down to a 5 piece.

Buying a name badge sucks. Forget the badge and buy what you want.
If nothing else, at some point you'll find yourself wishing you had a stage kit and a practice kit. Well, now you have the practice kit covered. If you can't change your circumstances, try to change your outlook.

I'm 25 and just got my first "decent kit". Til now all my kits were second hand and faded and frankly quite low quality. You're only 13 so you have loads of time to land that baby of a drum set!

No, I don't have a band right now. I'm trying to get one together though.

You aren't going to get much sympathy from me. The set I had when I was 13 was a cheap Japanese knock-off mismatched set with duct tape hold the toms in place and hardware that a good breeze could knock over, but it was all my parents could afford and I cherished it. Stop complaining about what you don't have, there is someone who would love to have a set as nice as the PDPs. Enjoy them.

Dude, fully. My first kit was a cheap Taiwanese kit that I paid for by mowing lawns. Kids are really spoiled these days.

I paid for my first kit with money I saved in the first year I worked after high school. I didnt buy the kit, but I paid for it. My parents only knew one name in drums, and when the ad came out in the paper, they emptied my bank account, and bought them. A thousand dollars was a lot of money in 1979, even for a used kit. I still have those Rogers.

This is true. However, when I was growing up very few kids had $2k+ kits as their first or second kits. It's how my generation views parenting. There seems to be this predominant feeling that kids should get whatever they want with the least amount of work. Which is why your generation is so screwed up. I know a lady who doesn't buy enough medication for her diabetes because she doesn't have enough money. But her kids have a 360, several games, iphones, etc. because she just wants them to be happy. Know what? Those kids still complain.

+1 What he said. Its weird. 300 dollar tennis shoes and live in the projects. I dont get it. I was in the third grade before I understood that Value Village was not a department store.

You got plenty of life to get the kit you want! Just think in a few years there will be something bigger and better out there you will want....I've bought lots of stuff in my 28 years, and always found out it didn't matter what I bought, I could always find something "different" I wanted instead....Not any more....

Does your hi-hat actually cover your snare that much?
Not being a pain, just wondering.

When I was a kid, I had to scrounge parts from every second hand store I could find just to get my 70's import kit to look and sound half decent... I got metal dowels from the hardware store to use as bass spurs, I hit up other drummers for their old stuff, I sat with wd-40 and and an old t-shirt for hours trying to clean all the metal..
The process of reviving an old kit that had spent years in a beach shed rusting and corroding was easily one of the most rewarding experiences of my youth, I remember the day I got the chrome to shine again, not only had I brought a kit back from the dead, but it didn't cost much money and it gave me a sense of pride in that kit...
