That looks cool.
You use duct tape to tape off???

yeah... looks good...
doesn't the duct tape take chunks of the shell with it when you remove it?

no, i made it less sticky by putting it on my work bench first LOL
i put the duct tap to mask off stripes i was doing with stain, but as always it bled thru and now i have to paint the stripes, i mean the bleed thru wasnt that bad, but i want them to be perfect, look below:

Use Pinstriping tape on the edge to get a fine line, then blue painters tape to mask off the rest
Unlike paint which is a coating on the surface, stain soaks into the body of the wood and will bleed under the masking

It really only works if you are painting, the stain will still soak under. You're masking the surface but the it soaks into the body-it's like trying to mask a paper towel.

You can paint some stripes over where the stain bleeds together

I don't know if its even possible to do the two tone stain like you are trying unless there is an inlay or some kind of seperation in the wood.
Norm Abrams would know....
You could still keep the purple stain, then paint the yellow. Just grow the stipes a bit so it covers the bleed over.

yeah, its almost impossible to do two tone stain, but i thought i'd give it a try, i knew what i was going into but its all a journey for me lol
so yeah, ill will just paint the yellow stripes and keep the purple, the purple looks sweet! i used a purple wood dye and it came out phenomenal!

You know what I'm saying about the pinstripe tape right? You use it to make your line precise, then masking tape to cover

I'd give it another coat, but I'm not trying to give the impression that I'm a master at finishing or anything-I've had limited success at painting and staining so I mostly know how not to do it
