anyone else use them?

what are your opinions?

i'm going to be completely honest... i splurged and purchased a set for my new snare and i honestly don't think they made my snare sound any better than a $7 generic snare.

yeah, i wasnt too suprised, i think it gave my snare a little more pop, but nothing worth paying 30 bucks for a set of strings, when i can get imported strings for like 5 bucks LOL

I have just bought some, they sound nice but again, not sure if they're really that much better than a cheap set...

Still it's early days, only been on a week and 2 days so maybe that opinion will change with time.

Grover snares are interesting. They're straight wires as opposed to spiral, made out of either silver or bronze. they're a bit more articulate, and don't buzz as much when you hit other drums.

As for the puresound, "I've never tried them. I just use the ludwig 20 strand ones.

I bought the Puresound Super 30 for my snare and I really like it. Much better than my factory snares that laid on that drum for 12 years. That being said, I've not a lot of experience with different snares so I don't know how much better it is than say the $5 Gibraltor Snares, but I am happy with the Puresound and although I hope I don't have to buy new ones anytime in the next 10 years, lol, I wouldn't be mad about it.

I think what I like about the Super 30 is that it added sensetivity and articulation to the snare at low volumes, all while keeping sympathetic buzzing at reasonable levels.

I think and I could be wrong, but any snare can be loud and give a "crack" but a real test of a snare is at a lower volume. If I'm wrong about this let me know, but it makes sense to me

I have Puresounds on two of my Dynasonics. And for a Dynasonic, you just cant go out and buy any old generic.

Yeah I agree with Timekeep about the durability. I've got a Yammy Abso Noveau and the stock snare bed it came with has pinged a few of the wires over 3 years of light-ish use. I've had a set of puresounds for 6 years now and they still sit beautifully on the Drum their fitted to. DW snares come with good quality snare beds as well.

Sound wise the puresounds seem to have a more relaxed sound and feel to them. I quite like it for some stuff but I've had trouble getting the tight snap thing out of them. Maybe it's the model I landed up with.

I noticed Bodiesblazed pointed out that he got a small improvement (for him) but felt it was not worth the 30 bucks more. Well in any endeavor from musical instruments to pro level sports equiptment, to.......well anything that requires invention and high precision engineering, even a 1/2 percent improvement can cost thousand if not millions (eg think of those running suits in the Olympics for that extra 10th of a second over a guy wearing shorts). 30 bucks on a better snare sound is money well spent if that snare suddenly performs to your expectation. Otherwise we should all just pack this forum in and all play CB kits from the Bedroom up to Madison Square gardens. An extra 30 bucks, or an extra 700 on a Vintage or a Custom Snare? I know what I would prefer to spend.

Well the stock wire on my snare broke so i bought a pursound one it does give the snare more pop
but i think there is better ones out there.

Puresound blasters? Those are pretty much the standard.

You could try out Fat Cat's. I heard those are even snappier.

it made it sound a little better, but for the same price, i could go buy some wires that will make people crap when they hear my snare. Puresound are not all what they are cracked up to be.

i think fat cats are well worth it

See we are questioning right down to the Snare wires on our snare drums. That's pretty nerdy (but I love it!). To me Puresound were the first (in the UK anyway) to focus directly on the Snare Bed specifically, therefore raising the Bar. And they have achieved a far more durable product than seemingly before, although there will always be someone out there to claim their ludwig snares have lasted 40 years bla bla. Fat Cat's I've never heard of so good luck to them, I presume they make a product in line with Puresound in cost and quality, if you prefer them great.
Sorry to go off topic, but I've always found it odd when a company turns around expectation in the market place and become so successful they become industry standard(e.g DW), that in time there becomes a huge backlash and people start stating how overblown they are. Then new boutique company's or other Corporates who have been forced to re-think become the heroes. U.S Drum company's had it in the 80's. I've noticed people slating Zildjian and Sabian in favour of Saluda for instance on the Forum. I guess that's just competition/evolution. What will happen to the Massive Saluda PLC company in 15 years time when every Drummer in MD uses them? Will people then say how they where never any good and they're overpriced anyway. Probably.

Just my point of view. Play what makes you happiest.

Grover Percussion is a company that mostly works with concert players. They also own SilverFox drum sticks and make custom snares.

They did the job. I was looking for a really dry sound for my 6.5"x14" Tama stainless. They're the wires, not cable. They seem very delicate so I'm extra careful when handling that drum.
