Post floor tom hardware problem
i have a gretsch catalina birch set. i love it except for the toms, generally. the worst part, though, is the hardware on the floor tom. every time i tighten the lugs on the legs, they loosen and the thing eventually falls over unless i constantly tighten them. and this has been a problem since i brought them home.

any suggestions? anyone else with this set or another gretsch having this problem?

is it worthwhile to switch out the floor tom leg brackets?

Buy some lock tight (stickey red stuff) or plumbers tape and apply it to your threads.

i almost feel like it's not the threads, though that is a great idea.

You have wing screws? Get some key screws.

I haven't had a problem with the Floor tom legs. They need to be tightened very little to hold.
i did have a problem with the bass drum spur.
I called and told them about it and they sent me a pair brand new ones in a few days. They're very good with customer service.

if they are still under warranty, take them back. They may fix them for you. If you fix them yourself, you will void your warranty.

I have a Gretsch set myself, but I've never had any problems with the floortom legs.
I'd try memory locks..

Go get some "Shaft collars". They look like metal donuts (mmmm donuts) with a small setscrew in the side. Hardware store's got 'em.

Get the right diameter for your legs, put those pups on there and your floor toms are good to go.

They are also really good as "generic" Memory locks for tom arms..

Ypu can buy memory locks for the legs or you can use suspension mount and mount it from a cymbal stand.

I would call Gretsch.
I didn't even have to send mine to them.
They just sent brand new ones.
they're defective

You can also put some lube on the mount bolt. Sometimes those rough-hewn bolts tend to bind (feel like they are tight but really are not) so slather a little CLP on them.
