Post DRUMMERCIZE!
Ok, so we all know drumming is a very physical instrument. I know that after some of my practices I feel like I was just at the gym. Im wandering if anyone has ever, or is currently seeing weight loss from drumming. Is it a valid form of "exercise"? I would think it would defenitley help in the cardio area. What do you guys and gals think?

If I'm not sitting at the drums, I'm at a computer. Drumming somehow helps me stay a little bit fit, and I'm the king of playing relaxed....WHy do I say that? Because I'm F'n LAZY. Smile If my arms were not moving I'd be taking a nap. Smile

Most certainly! You can be fooled by the fact that you're sitting down the whole time, but it's great cardio for a start and it'll burn you some bitchin' calories. And if you're playing hard or fast it'll give you a nice burn in your arms and legs too (try playing 'Highway Star' by Deep Purple to see what I'm talking about there). That's why drummers always come off stage drenched in mysteriously groupie-attracting sweat.

A good drum session probably isn't a substitute for a proper workout, but it's definitely exercise. I like to use a practice as a warmup before my workout.

Drumming makes me feel like I have just left the gym on a good night! Actually after practice last night I feel like I took a PT test. The energy is great but I sometimes forget to stretch (not good)! On that note...playing drums works all of your muscles to include your heart. That's a good thing! P.O.Y!

Im glad Im not the only one to have thought of this. I think it would be hilarious if someone put out a video of rudiments, foot exercizes, etc.. for drummers to get a workout, while simultaniously getting in a good practice. "Sweatin to the drummies" LOL

I love food and drink way to much for it to make a difference. When I breathe right (rarely) and stay off the Double BD (always) I barely break a sweat. i KNOW i SPELL LIKE A SIX YEAR OLD.

I sweat my ass off when I drum mostly because everytime i sit down to play i pretend i'm playing in a massive sold out arena filled with hot chicks calling my name, so I flip my sticks, switch hands between what's hitting what ,headbang, and expierence a drumgasm. its all in the days work.

Well this is a truth history.....once i went to the doctor cause i had some pain iin my back....She made some control to see what could be fact that gives me all this pain....well this lady was wondered when she was counting the pulse of my heart...SHE WAS AMAZED...she told me you're a really sport man isn't...answer... well i i do not practice any particular sport (i work a lot of hours here some the rest of the time is drums and friends) so i told her that the only thing that i do everyday is drumming (from 1 to 3 hours) but you know what? she didn't believe me, she told me that the fact of playing drums could not give me this strong heart.

you have to see me after play drums...i'm all surrounded by sweat..it's horrible it's like if i was doing a marathon Wink

So buddies if you play a lot of drums you're like an sport man.

Post I just did an online calorie counter...
it said that (for my weight 230lbs) I burn 417 cal an hour playing drums, I disagree though, because it did not differentiate between speed, or power or anything.

i would say it would improve your health, but not necessarily increase fitness. And it would improve the cardio endurance and muscle endurance of health related fitness but leave out most other aspects of health related and skill related fitness. can u tell i do PD/H/PE in school?

I agree with above. Good for health, but not any kind of an increase in fitness....

I wonder how many of us do things to counter act the health or fitness aspect? then there is no real gain at all.

I think style is going has a lot to do with how good a workout drumming is for you. A death metal player will be sweating more than a laid back blues guy. Smile
