If it's a Stratavarius(I think that's how you spell it) then yeah it's worth tons. But I wouldn't sell it for drum parts. You don't find craftsmanship like that everyday. Appraise it, and then keep it in a safe place. With appraisals, you could have it covered by insurance if it gets damaged. Home owner's I mean. My trumpet teacher had what is called a Mt. Vernon Bach trumpet. To make a long story short, it's about twice as old as your violin. They're said to be hand tested by Bach himself. Anyway, it's covered under his insurance...he was telling me...

That is exactly why you'll never get anything like this and I did. My uncle could have handed this $80,000.00 instrument to any of 200 or so family members. He chose me, not only because I'm a musician but because he new I valued the family and it's history. I wont sell it to by drum parts or a Rolex or whatever. That's not to say, in dire straits I would not sell it. Survival is different than being selfish and he and I both know it. Kids these days give a shit about nuthin. Sad. I'm afraid of the world that you snot faced brats wil control one day.

I have a striking sensation he employed sarcasm in that post.

I know atleast that the smearing of an entire generation wasn't warranted even if he wasn't...

Sitting right next to me is my fathers 25 year old guitar which if was entrusted to me I would protect and care for dearly, even though it isn't a tiny fraction as much as your Stratovarius.

The point being, just because I am under the age of 30 doesn't mean I can't respect and cherish sentimental belongings.

That last sentence was the Gin talking. I'm sure those other dudes were just trying to be funny about selling the Violin. Sarcasm not so much. The Violin is worth a boat load and My father has/had 10 siblings who all had multiple children and grandchildren. Well, except my gay uncle.

Jees, that sucks dude. When all is said and done you are supposed to be able to rely on and stand by your family. I have a cousin I wouldn't cross the road and piss on if he was on fire, but thats a different story.

Nice.

this is great! You should call the antiques road show people and have them show it off!!! They will appraise it to and maybe give you some more insight on where it came from!!! Those shows are awesome.

Best way to love a violin is to play it!!!! Lets ask Itzhak Perlman, he might give it a whirl!

My wife wants me to take it to the roadshow when they come to town. My uncle has a bunch of papers on it that he promissed to give to me when he hands me the violin. I'm in no hurry. It feels weird getting it while he's still with us. So I think I'll wait unless he forces it on me. I hope he hangs around for some time. He's 80.
