Homemade Hand Hammered 14" Multi-Use Cymbal
This is my homemade hammered multi-use cymbal. It took about 30 minutes of hammering using two different sized hammers with 1" and 1.5" head things, 30 minutes of putting weigh to help flatten and hammering bottom of the cymbal, and 10 minutes of using tape formation and using a lighter to melt the bell a little. I'm using this for a science fair project where we have to experiment and see the conclusion. The tape formation in the first pictures is what I call the X and the one in the last one with my homemade wood brushes is the Square Eye. It's great for an accent in blast beats and its dark with short decay and goes great when hit together or right before or after a crash or it can be used as a crash when the tape is off. When used a a hi-hat top it's really trashy and good for blasting but not so good for opening closing in grooves. hammering makes a great difference and a lot more trashy and cooler looking. The bell has no overtones when it's hammered either. I hope this gets an A+ at the fair.

Can you put a video of it being used as different things? And did you just buy a circle of the metal to begin with? good luck at the science fair.

Tomorow my friend is briging his camera to my house and he's gonna take some vids. No, it wasn't have a piece of metal it was a crash my cousin gave me that had no label of brand on it of any kind, it just came with his new set. I completely reshaped it though just using a hammer and a lighter. On one of the other crappy cymbals he gave me (I think a 16" Crash) I made the bell complete different with an the top inside out and it sounds really nice. But I'll try and get videos up as fast as possible and if we don't have a good camera we'll have to use my phone though.

Yeah well my friend couldn't find a camera and we tried my phone and it was a joke you couldn't hear anything. I have to ask the guitarist I jam with to cover over again but that's not for a while so I can make a video until the weekend.
Today I was working out all kinds of formations with the normal and hammered cymbals and piggybacking them on my ride and got one that sounds exactly like a APX 10" Splash. It doesn't really fit into any beats though. Even blast beats are sound bad when it's like it but it's perfect for in a solo right before you hit a crash.
I also hammered a 16" crash that my cousin was going to throw out. I hammered it at least 800 times and how when you hit it you can see the vibrations making it wave and the metal bending and looks sweet but all of a sudden today it just changed and now its stuck in a weird formation and makes a horrible sound that makes actually hitting a trash can lid sounds better.

its a good idea for old cymbals
