 Double chain vs single chain
whats the dif between these? Do I need a double chain pedal?

The main difference in the stability of the footboard. There's very little lateral movement with a double chain.

what is the lateral movement? I have never paid attention or have leanred about this. Is there a benefit to having the double chain rather than single? I have a single chain, but not a very good pedal. The foot board is cheesy and over all the thing is just not "solid" to me. I could be fine if I buy a single chain DW or something?
To think, I have moved from a belt drive to a single chain and maybe now soon, to a sweet new foot pedal! Yay!

I've been playing with DW 5000 series double chain hi hat stand and double bass pedal for about 6 years now. I just bought my Roland KD-7 kick trigger, and the auction I bought it from came with a Pearl P-100 single chain bass pedal. Not needing to say how much cheaper it feels and is, it feels a lot more loose and doesn't have the speed or consistency of my double chain DW's. It may just be because of the difference in quality but that is my observation.

Lateral as in side to side. You want the total motion and power to be transfered to the beater--if there is slop in the pedal or linkage some of the energy is wasted

Ahhhh, I have tons of play in my pedal....i need a new one then, if tightening it up doesnt do anything....Im drumming adept now!!! hahaha

I prefer the stability of the double chain! the pedal feels much more durable.
Just go check out both single and double see what you think of the difference!

word. I want something that is going to enhance my ability as well. Double chain, to me, sounds like I could harp on it... I generally play very light anyway. I was never really a set player, but I can tell you I have good dynamic control being an orchestral style player...I know who is shopping today!!!!

Wrong approach...
No pedal will enhance your ability. You should be looking at a pedal that doesn't get in the way of your ability. The only thing that will enhance your ability is practicing.

I've never owned a double chain dw, always had the single chain ones.
I've played around on the double chain ones, and they felt great.

A single chain Has less stability on the footboard and a double chain has more giving you
a smooth feel. But i would recommend a double chain because a single chain can break
pretty easy

any pedal will do, as long as you know how to set it up correctly according to feel and to what suits you best.
