 Seat Height
What is a proper seat height? Im 5'5" and never thought about my position at the set much...whould I sit high? low?
Sounds like it might be a personal pref..

It's all personal preference. I used to sit pretty low, with my drums up a bit high on me, but since watching Mike Johnston play, I've changed it up and probably have my seat twice as high as it once was, with my drums a bit lower, so now I'm more on top of the kit.
Most people say that when you sit down your leg, from your hip to your knee should be parallel to the ground, and a 90 degree angle with your lower leg extending to the bass drum pedal. Mike says you can get more power and speed having your leg at a higher angle.
I think my bass drum playing is improving, but I'm not necessarily sure if it's because I've got a better practice routine now, or because I'm up higher, probably a bit of both.

It's personal preference.
Most say thigh should be parallel to the floor.
I sit as low as the seat goes.
I'm known to have a heavy foot.
When I sit high it feels unstable, especially when playing double bass.

I sit pretty high, I find it easier to work the bass.

I sit high. It feels better to me balance-wise, I seem to play better with my feet, and improves my posture.

I second this! I raised my seat a little, and I can sit better...my back doesnt tense up so much!

same here.. Ever since I started working on double bass pedal, i started sitting higher it felt like I had more room to move and my posture improved drastically, My knees and back no longer hurt after practice.

I'm gonna try raising my seat a little then I reckon if it works for you guys, at the moment I have it so my thighs are inclined downwards a wee bit (so just above thighs parallel to the ground height), and I do sometimes get pains in the back, but I think that's cause I hunch over loads when I'm really getting into the groove!

no such thing as proper, are you hitting the drum and not yourself ( i.e. thigh or knee)? thats a good start if not consider adjusting. posture is very important as well keep your back up and the energy your body expends will go to your limbs easier and more efficiently.

I generally say to put the throne at "knee height" -- so that when you sit, your thighs are parallel to the ground.
That said, you should set it up high, med , and low and see which way works best for your body, since everyone is a little different.
