I had the EC2 Coateds on awhile back, they are great. I have EC2 clears on right now, but I'm switching back here soon. I'm gonna try them in the studio and see how the sound. If they dont work , I'll put on G2 coateds just for the recording.

Is there a big difference between the coated and clear EC2s? I tried the coated ones on my toms once and I didn't like the sound that much. I've heard and played the clear EC2s on several drumsets and loved the tone, so I'm thinking about trying them out on my kit...I just don't know if it will sound the same as the coated and I'll be disapointed again.

EC2 has a tone control ring around the perimeter, and it's 'frosted' not coated. It's kinda hard to explain...
G2 is just your basic two-ply coated head, done by Evans.

ok thats what i thought. so are the EC2's like a little like more dead or something than the G2's because of the control ring?

I'm using the clear G2/G1 combo which sounds great, but I'd definitely like more low end on my toms, but I dont wanna give up any resonance, think the clear EC2's would do me right?
