the st anger album so around 2003

If you're trying to get that classic "st anger" sound just go outside and hit a metal trashcan with a aluminum baseball bat. that should do the trick...

Anyone else here like Lar's tone on the album "...And Justice for all"? It's different...very dry but very precise...and some people have compared the bass drum to farts...but nevertheless I've always thought it was pretty cool

the ...ajfa album's drums sound horrible imo. honestly, I don't think lars has the best sounding drums but the black album has a pretty good sound to it.

At one time, I think for the S&M video, he had my setup:

Clear Emperors on tops and coated ambassadors on the bottom.

Snare was probably a CS coated.

Don't know about the basses, maybe powerstrokes.

I would give my left nut for my kit to sound like the Black Album's drums.

Have you seen the video of the practicing of St Anger? I really liked that disc, came with the album.

seriously im not here to bash for the sake of bashing and i know everyone is entitled to their own opinion but the drums on st anger are some of the worst sounding drums i have heard people put an effort into. the black album sounds incredible drum wise, same producer and everything just a 13 year difference on what they thought was "cool" or "it". from the rest of metallicas albums nothing jumps out and says "bad" like they do on st anger. that hollow cheap garbage can sound on the snare drum and the floppy cardboard box over said garbage can of a kick drum. either way the heads wont do the trick. its a combination of heads, drums, drum sizes, mic's, producers, mixing, and time

St. Anger sucking is pretty unanimous, even amongst the most die-hard fans. A lot of it is Bob Rock's fault, which is why they're with Rick Rubin now. The other part of it is them trying to sound like the bands they influenced instead of setting off on another path of their own.

yes i agree and even though i'm not too interested in what metallica does that much anymore im very interested to see what they do with rick rubin, rick rubin does a lot of cool things for even the most hardened veteran musicians. it will be cool to see how it comes out.
