When recording some metal tunes recently, I used 30% triggered snare and 70% real snare. I used a roland trigger alongside a roland brain from an electic drumkit. This was fed into a Mac running Logic, whereby I used a pre-recorded snare sample to use as the trigger. What is it you are looking to do? Go to a studio to record, or try at home?

yeah just recording at home, but your reply helps all the same.
How is your drumkit fed through mic's into the mac?
Like what would i need to get from A (Drum mics) to B (Logic)?

Thanks man

In the studio environment, I have drum mics fed through a snake into a desk, where I can set some basic levels and EQ, and then each of the channels are sent individually to the mac through some kind of sound module affair (id have to ask the producer guy how exactly it works) .. but it basically means on screen in logic you can have every single channel, snare, kick, toms, overheads, and then EQ and adjust each and every channel ..... its basically a virtual mixing desk. I made 3 channels for snare, Underside snare, topside snare, and triggered snare ... then just blend and EQ until you are satisfied!
