Post Head selection the sound im going for
well the time has come for new heads seeing as ive broken my stock heads and im faced with problem of choosing the right heads. I am trying to achieve a sound somewhat like chad smiths toms but im not sure on how to explain them so im going to leave this to the people who are familiar with his sound. i play a 4 piece pearl export there fusion sizes and im using the 12x9 and a 14x11. right now im thinking of either remo clear emperors or remo pinstripes any sugestions? thx in advance Razz

chad smith uses clear emperors I blieve. I think you can get the sound you're looking for with pinstripes too though. I'd go with clear emps, leaves more options open. You might want to check the state of the reso's too, by the way. I change those out about twice a year.

thanks for your opnion man much apreciated the resos are still stock and there only about one year old at the max they seem in pretty good nick but im not to sure on how exactly to check there condtition any tips? if the resos are still in good nick do you think new resos would have a drastic change in overall sound?
o and do you think the clear emps would require any dampening becuase i was hpping with good tuning i could get away without any becuase im sick of using my e-rings becuase they kill my toms Sad

no problemo! If the resos look good, but you're not sure.. take the batters off and tap the resos with your finger, and see how good the tone is that comes from them. that's how I usually do it, though I'm not sure it has any value:P

as for dampening, it all depends on the sound you're after! I don't like those e-rings or remO's, because they take away waaay to much tone for my taste. I don't mind putting a little tape or moongel on there though.

As far as head selection goes, I think you'll be good with a set of clear emperors with the stock reso's, and just go from there.

good luck!

Get some gaffer's tape then. Make sure it's gaffer's tape as it will remove easily when the time comes. I'd send you some moongels if the postage were cheap!
